Wondering how the road is from Sooke to Port Refrew travelling with a 37' 5th wheel. Is it ok or it better to just do it with the TV.

Check with DriveBC if you were thinking of taking that road from Pt. Renfrew to Lake Cowichan. It is currently closed due to an ongoing Fire around Pt. Renfrew.

Yes..paved as of 2011. I didn't know that...went looking.

Sometimes I sit and think deep thoughts. other times, I just sit!

The West Coast Road would be do-able with your 37 footer BUT then you'd be backtracking out again and still driving the Malahat.

The Pacific Marine Road from Port Renfrew through to Cowichan Lake is NOT a road I'd pull a 37' fifth wheel through. It's an old logging road that has had some upgrades and is a pleasant enough drive in a vehicle but would be a slow go with that large of a fifth wheel.

Malahat is highway standard and busy, but not a problem.

Welllllll......depending on where you are planning to go...there is a road that crosses the Island, from or to, Port Renfrew. So, if you were going to cut a line across and just go the one way, I'd say sure. My remarks were if you were going to look and return same way.

Check out the Pacific Marine Road...runs east/west.

What Gary said...there are a lot of tight turns. If you wanted to avoid the Malahat, take a look at the Brentwood ferry. It makes for a nice, casual, drive. Then take the secondary roads through Chemanus.

Thanks Gary.. We are working our way north to parksville and considered the west coast road as an alternative to the Malihat.

That would dpeend entirely on your skill set and how you handle some pretty nasty turns. I have done it and...I'd do it if I was staying. If I was just taking a look then going back? The TV.
