swapping out trailers

Hi all;

I brought a trailer into Mexico last year with the plan of staying for 6 months and just driving a vehicle back and forth. We left it down at the rv park and when we got back decided to get a bigger rv and pull it down and when we come back in the spring, we will pull the other one back home.
The one down there has a 10 year TIP.
Being that we already have one trailer in their computer, under my name, do any of you think that this could be a problem?
Maybe put the new trailer in my wifes name?
Maybe just forget about it and squeeze into the trailer down there for 6 months.

Funny how small things get after a month or so.
Anyway, has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks.

Register all the vehicles in both the spouses names and you avoid all of the confusion with the TIP and visas, either can import the vehicles.

Mr. xxx yyy __AND/OR___ Mrs. XXX YYY it is the personal visa associated with the TIP, husband imports the tow vehicle under his visa and wife imports the trailer under her visa since both are owners of both vehicles.

Husband has one trailer tip and visa and wife brings the other trailer under her name and different TIP, but all the vehicles are under both names, when returning to the USA take the trailer that you do not want back and that is it.

That is what we have been doing with our motohome and jeep for years. Keeps thing simple having joint ownership.

I will definitely check about the insurance. Thanks for the help folks.

It use to be that the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle had to be in the same name. I am fairly certain that rule still applies.

You are opening a can of worms. People do things like this and get away with it. But at some point you could end up breaking the law and voiding any insurance.

Yes place the second trailer in wifes name, we place the toad in my name and come down for the 180 days of the toad, then we drive to San Antonio for a couple of months and enter Mexico and wife registers the toad in her name, 180 days later we reverse the deal and I import the toad back, so far so good.

Put the second trailer in your spouses name, and you will be fine.
