Trip to Willowtree in North Myrtle beach need route help

Planning a trip to Willowtree Resort in longs SC. The address is 2000 Old Buck Creek Rd Longs SC 29568.

We have been there many times and coming from Washington PA I take 79 South to 19 South to 77 South to 52 South to 74 South to 95 South to 9 South and then left onto Camp Swamp road to Old Buck Creek Road.

Google Maps has me taking 74 south to 410 south to 1004 to 1005 to 144 in South Carolina and 144 to Camp Swamp Road to Old Buck Creek road.

Now I know the Google route might be fine for a car but not so much for a truck towing a 5th wheel.

My question is there a better route off of 74 south than my route but not taking me on the back roads that Google Maps wants me to take?

Thanks!

Were I you. I would do 74 to 410 to 701 to 9. We go that way to North MB all the time. It is much shorter than hitting 95, and the roads are good. It is a short jump from 410 to 9 on 701.
Then after you hit 9. take your regular route

x2 good advice from terry
we live north of this area about 1 and 1/2 hours

post some comments after you stay
we haven't been to willowtree but my cousin and his wife go there with their kids. they like it.

I can post now about this place. We love it!.

It is not on the beach but you can be there in about 15 to 20 minutes. There is no cable so either have satellite etc.

Has a very nice pool and kiddie pool hot tub. It also has swimming with bounce things in the lake right by the pool. Very popular with the kids. See their website for photos.

Has two lakes with some respectable bass in them. Catch and release. You can expect to see wildlife along the paved walk around the lake. Several years ago they had a bald eagle nest.

They have some back in sites that are lakefront and some MH only pull in sites. The rest are pull through. Some are buddy sites where the two trailer doors face one another.

Park has always been immaculate with daily trash pick up at your site. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Now the big reason. SPACE. There is considerable room between sites. Each site is paved very long (SAY 5th wheel and at least two vehicles). Full hookup minus cable. The website does an aerial fly by. Watch that and you will see what I mean. Park is very quiet at night. Allows campfires and provides fire ring charcoal grill and picnic table at each site.

Bath house is eight separate bathrooms that have toilet sink and shower. Always have been very clean.

We can't wait to get back there!

Terry,

Thanks for the response!

That does look like a simple route to follow. I attempted to use Google maps last year and we were on such back roads that I was concerned about scraping the side or roof of my 5th wheel. That's one reason I used the 95 to 9 route in the past.

My so called RV GPS has me going through DC and down 95 to 9 as the RV friendly route. Not going to happen!

Dave

When you get off 74. You will go through a little town, and then it is 20 some miles to 701. I want to say 29, but not sure. Any way. When you hit 701 and turn right. Just down the road a short piece is a gas station, and a fast food restaurant, I'm thinkin it is a Burger King. Good place to stop and prepare for the ride down 9. You will turn under the bridge and hit 9. Have fun.

Google Maps and GPS units ADVISE you of a route that meets their routing algorithms.

As the driver/ navigator it is my responsibility to choose an appropriate route and tell my GPS or Google Maps the route I want to take.

Those devices monitor my progress and keep me advised of turns , lanes to be in for interchanges, etc.

Never let a GPS or Google Maps choose a long distance route without verifying it is an appropriate route for your vehicle.

Asking advice as you did with this thread is an excellent way to check a route. Because all of us can get stuck in using a particular route and miss unpdates or changes.

Quite often we will choose to avoid certain roads because of construction, road conditions, etc. based on 5 or 10 year old experience and/or information.
