US 36 and US 34 Access to Estes Park

According to 9News in Denver tonight, US 36 between Lyons and Estes Park is now completely reopened to traffic, with all the major construction completed. The news report indicated that it's reopening ahead of schedule, and the Governor was there for a reopening celebration. Report said only minor repairs still need to be done, and shouldn't impact traffic.

In a related note from last week, the Fort Collins Coloradoan reported that US 34 (which was temporarily rebuilt after the floods this week last September) will undergo extensive rebuilding in the Spring of 2015 and will last until 2017. The article indicated that, since some of this area has been destroyed twice (in 1976 and last year), that the roadbed is going to be relocated in some areas to make the road more resistant to major flooding. Presumably, this means something akin to what CDOT did with US 36, moving the roadway further away and up from the river.

Thanks, Thom, for this up to date info. As you know we used to live there and still have many friends there.....and people come to us for info on the area so it is good to have solid info like you have here to give them.

(We are currently not in AZ but on the OR Coast!)
