Washington Ferry

Everyone has been so helpful already. Thanks. Now I have another question. Can I take a 30 foot travel trailer on a ferry from Port Townsend WA to get to the Burlington WA area via Whidbey Island so I don't have to drive all the way around?

This is true, but don't yank that 30 footer down on Front street, it's a narrow street with tight corners. leave the trailer at the parking lot near the Post Office and walk down. Yes they are great, and well worth the walk. (it's like a block and a half)

Very good point, but they will be placed in the oversized lane and load from there along with the trucks. it is the far left lane in the waiting area.

The toll is about 65-75 bucks but well worth the price rather going thru Seattle.

One more suggestion, leave Shelton with a full tank of fuel, gas prices on the Peninsula are plane stupid.

WATCH the tide tables, your 30'er is boarder line, when the ferry is docking at low tide the ramps are very steep. you may drag or high center. they also cancel the runs at the lowest tides. The Whidbey side is too shallow to run the new ferry at the lowest tides. Mid tide or high tides no problems. and you will need a reservation. Turn off your propane. they will give you a tag for the tank.

We live on Whidbey. Have fun, Oak Harbor is a full service town with all the stores you may need.

It's important to make your reservation in advance for the Port Townsend to Coupeville ferry. If your tow vehicle + trailer is over 50 feet in length then you're looking at about $80 one-way.


BTW, I sold my house in Manchester, NH in 2010 and came to WA. I'm about seven miles east of 7 Cedars Casino.

Good information! It's an easy and interesting trip. The route can be interrupted by low tides and bad weather, so keep checking the WA State Ferry website for updates.
