We did it! WA to UT & back.

8 days, 2666 miles on the truck and toy-hauler, 550 miles on the Harley. Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Deadhorse Point State Park, Goosenecks State Park, Moki Dugway, Natural Bridges National Monument, and Bryce Canyon National Park.

What an absolute blast, and we are going back, just don't know when.

Left Auburn about 4am Friday morning, had a spot reserved in Green River, UT, and we were there a little before midnight. The goal of the trip was to get there, and tour the Parks on the motorcycles. Met 2 other couples, and it worked out well. We had goof off days built in, so not much overload. Trip back was from Escalante, overnight in Salt Lake City, and next overnight in Meridian ID. Home in time to go to work Wed. And we did some exploring of roads in Utah and OR that looked squiggly and interesting. I became eligible for Medicare this year, as far as age goes.

I drove a Honda Element down Long Canyon; there was enough sand in the upper slot that I might not have been able to make it going up. Without 4-low the road's a good test for your brakes.





I did the Shaffer Canyon - Long Canyon loop in the late 80s in a 4x4 pickup. That was before the rock fell on Long.

We usually do that trip from Miami, Fl. in about 10 weeks. Next time you're in the Moab, Canyonlands area rent a Jeep and do some of the 4x4 trails. One of the most fun & easiest is the Shaffer switchbacks off Rt.313 down into the bottom of Canyonlands, across to connect with Rt.279, left at Jug handle arch, up Long Canyon under the big fallen rock, back up to the top and reconnect Rt.313.

Last time I drove to that area from Seattle was a two week trip:

- 2 motel nights through Idaho
- Duchesne, UT
- Deadhorse pt
- LaSalle Mtns
- Telluride
- Cortez (via $M hwy)
- Moki, Halls Crossing
- Bullfrog, Capitol Reef, Escalante
- Caliente NV
- Big Pine, CA
- 4 nights through E California and Oregon to home

We did 7000 miles in six weeks going to BC this summer and 250 miles on mountain bikes and another 250 on our legs. Still felt rushed.

Trade that Harley for UTV, and see what fun really is LOL. One of the most amazing areas in the States, glad you had a great trip.
