Is there a campground/RV park in the vicinity of Chicago? Ideally, we'd like to be near some type of commuter station (train/bus) that would take us into the city.

Paul Wolff (not wolf) campground is a real nice place. $25 per night. Water/electric and dump stations. Big rig friendly.

Take the train in from Elgin.

Thanks. I was at work and couldn't remember the exact spelling :D. Either way this is the best bet for a Chicago campground!

John Paul wolf Forest preserve in Elgin. Very close to Metra to take you into the city.

Metra: name of train system
CTA: Chicago bus system
PACE: Suburban bus system
You can pay for any of these using the Ventra app
Google Maps can help you with planning your route. You may want to check out Starved Rock State Park while in the area. Be sure to click on the link I posted earlier and read through the entire thread.
