Blythe Island Regional Park GA

Other than the tornado warnings going off every thirty minutes Sunday morning the place is great, the staff is great, rates OK. A great stopover between NC and Destin at the GA 29 MM.
However, if it matters to you there is a GIANT pulp mill in plain sight when you get up in the morning. So factor in the wind direction when planing to stay. I didn't see that mentioned anywhere so I thought I'd share.
Prayers for all those who suffered last weekend.

I'm not that concerned that I could see it. What I don't want to do is smell it. The manager on duty when we checked out stated that some days were better than others. That means to me that some days are not as good as others. I gave the place several kudos. I'm not putting your town down, just stating facts.

I wasn't insulted at all. Between the Pulp Mill and the Chemical processing plants in town, it certainly gets stinky. We've lived here 10 years. The wife and kids don't notice it anymore, but I sure do.

We stayed three days at Blythe Island Regional Park last March (2016) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would never have been aware of the smell or the water except for reading about them here.

Maybe we were just lucky, but hope to go back someday.

If the odor from the pulp mill doesn't get you, the smelly water will. Sulphery. The only place I know where you smell worse after taking a shower than before. I've stayed with friends on Blythe Island, they're use to it.

We like the place also and go to the area often. You can't see the mill from any of the sites and I have no idea why the op said you could. Nice big sites for the most part.

That's a bit of an exaggeration as you have to go to the river to see the pulp mill. It is not visible from the campground. Fortunately, it's only about once a month that the odor from the pulp mill is noticeable. That happened a week ago today, two days before the storm rolled through on Sunday. I wasn't on Blythe Island last Friday, but I certainly smelled it on the main land.

We live a few miles from the park. Have never camped there, but have spent many days with the Motorhome setup next to the beach.
