Two families looking for a nice campground with attached waterpark or several pools within a 5-6 hour drive of Bristol, VA/TN area for June of 2019. We have 4 children, ages 12, 13 and 2-15 year olds. If there are site-seeing things close by, that's a plus.

We need FHU campground with nice amenities, but we need to have some activities that the teens and tweens can do alone.

We have been going to the beach somewhere, each year and have found that we don't spend a lot of time on the beach, so there is no need to drive so long to sit by a pool or outside our campers. We have done the OBX, Hunting Island, Gulf Shores, Jekyll Island and other places.

We have looked at both Cedar Point (OH) and Carowinds (NC), but have not decided whether these will suit our needs. Cedar Point is expensive, at $109-159/night at this years' rates and Carowinds will be HOT!!

Any other suggestions?

I second the recommendation for Holiday World / Splashin Safari in Indiana. Great water park and theme park, and Lake Rudolph campground is lots of fun and connected to the parks so teens can go back and forth themselves.

Along the lines of Cedar Point etc., I would consider Knoebels and/or HersheyPark, both in PA and both with associated campgrounds. HersheyPark has a sizable water park area, and shuttle service from their campground. Knoebels has a big pool with a few water slides but not really a large scale water park, but it's an awesome place none the less. They have one campground (with basic ammenities and some pretty small sites) that is right at the park and another (bigger sites and a bit nicer overall) that is a few miles away with periodic shuttle service included.

In the opposite direction, Disney's Fort Wilderness gets lots of rave reviews, though it isn't exactly inexpensive to say the least.

Again not in the park but Williamsburg Va, about 7-8 hrs away, Busch Gardens/ Water Country USA and a couple of campgrounds very close by.
And for a change of pace you can visit Colonial Williamsburg.

There are a couple campgrounds within very close proximity of Indiana Beach (Monticello, Indiana), they even offer shuttle service to the park or you can walk.

The other one we've been to is Lake Fairfax Park (Fairfax County, Virginia ... Reston, Virginia). Click here.
There is a water park right there at the park. It's not anything as large as 6 Flags or anything, but it's a nice park.

Not in the campground, but Santa Clause, Indiana has Holiday World and Splashin' Safari. VERY close by campgrounds include Lincoln State Park, and Camp Rudolph. There are several more in the area too.
