Not sure how this topic relates to boondocking, but

We are sitting at a campground in north Florida because it offers a PA discount. The Florida State Park where we had a reservation did not allow us to camp there because we were delayed on the road and arrived after dark last night.

I'm a Good Sam Life Member and occasionally use the GS discount. If I wasn't on my way to a granddaughters wedding next weekend in Fort Lauderdale, we would be at The Rally near Phoenix working as volunteers.

As full timers we also are Escapees and use their mail service. I often get a 15% discount as an SKP at parks which give 10% to GS or AAA.

I'm also retired US Navy and use military cog rounds because they are often cheaper that commercial CG with discounts.

PA is for exactly what we are using it for today. When just passing through and you need a place to stop for the night or plans change.

SKP might pay back the membership costs in CG savings, but that's not a primary reason to join. The same with Good Sam. But PA will pay back your costs in just a couple nights use each year.

SKP = do it phonetically S K P = Escapee.

Escapees is more of a club than a discount camping program, but they do have associated parks (all nice) that offer member discounts.

PA is strictly a discount club and it enables parks to offer discount to sell sites in slow periods. They will limit or not offer the discount in busy times. Most will not allow it if you reserve ahead of time, just call ahead that day.

PA does no inspection or rating of parks, some are great, some are dumps. We have found more better than bad. We are Escapees and use those parks when convenient, but use PA more. First thing I look for are PA parks on our route. For a quick overnight who cares about amenities? Sometimes it is just an open lot with hook-ups and a slot to drop your payment. $12-15 for a full hook-up works for us.

On the other hand we have also found some great small campgrounds with PA.

As noted above, PA pays for itself in one or two nights.

Although it's pronounce "Skips or SKP" like Escapee, it actually means. Service, knowledge and parking.

Escapees is great if their parks are on the route that you usually travel. If not than passport America is good. PA is very limited as to what days and limited discount's that usually apply for two or three days only, non weekends and so forth. It will pay for it self after the first use usually. SKPs membership is cheap. Both together is what we use. SKPs has some very nice parks!

What is SKP? And thanks so much!

Escapees is worthless if not at an Escapees park. Nobody recognizes it. It's always GS or AAA.

In the west the Passport seems to offer good value--still haven't done it, though. In checking the websites of odd little cgs in odd little towns, the PP deal at 50% off beats the weekly deal. Otherwise exactly as said, perfect for a few days here and there.

If you are traveling from point A to point B and doing one night stays these memberships including GS will save you a few $$. If you stay any place for a week the weekly rate is usually much lower than any other discount.
