Anyone ever stay at Lolo Creek or Lee Creek campgrounds in MT? Would appreciate any info. Is will be on our first long post retirement trip & have done little camping in forests. THX

The USFS campground on Lolo Creeek is pretty good, since you're on US 12, make sure you drive the highway towards Lewiston ID and stay at Wilderness Gateway CG on the Clearwater-Nezperce NF in Idaho. As Gordon pointed out abovr, check with the USFS websites for detailed info.

If you're planning to stay in national forest campgrounds through the country, here is an excellent site:

Dow's National Forest Camping

They have personally visited each site. Naturally, since time has passed some things might be different but we used it all the time to get a general idea. It's excellent for directions.

Can't speak to those or any forest in MT, but in general, each National Forest has a MVUM - a map that shows areas open to motorized (highway) vehicles and off-road (non highway). It also shows official dispersed camp sites (numbered that is), and forest service campgrounds that might not show up on any other maps.

Check out the USDA / USFS website for your forest and grab a copy of the map. Also the print version is free if you stop in to the ranger's office.
