First of all the park is very attractive with the cool clear Frio river running the length of the park and great trees and views in the park as well as on the hiking and biking trails. Facilities are good and the park even has a small store and boat and tube rental along with GPS cache information.
The park is very crowded on the weekends but pleasantly sparse during the week when school is in session so plan your visit accordingly.
What is bad, and justification enough to give the park a terrible rating is the camp water supply. The water from the taps for RV hook-up is extremely yellow stained and not drinkable. So stained in fact that it is darker than urine which it resembles. We made the mistake of filling our fresh water tank with it without knowing the problem (no where in the camps or at the park check-in area is anything posted about the bad water). We called the park headquarters and were told that the water had heavy mineral content due to the depth of the well and that she personally would not drink it.
After returning home I found it to be extremely difficult to flush out all the lines and especially the holding tanks and the water heater because the yellow minerals settle out and cling creating a lasting problem.
Why the park does not warn people of the problem is baffling; if I had known I would have filled the fresh water tank before we arrived. Also people hooking up to the city water connection may not notice the condition as the yellow is not as apparent if full volume is not used, likely because of the settling. I suspect people are drinking it without knowing how bad it is other than the bad taste.
