We where in Wichita this spring, stayed at the Air Capital Rv park. Was a very nice park, right off the freeway and had full hook-up

I second Cheney State Park. Large sites; big trees and a great lake. Also, nice walking or biking trails. AND, if you get a big storm their concrete bathrooms provide a safer place to weather the storm than the MH. Have fun.

I've seen people camp at Cowley State Lake, just east of Arkansas City. Unlighted pit toilets, no hookups, no potable water, so it is camping.

The largest state park in Kansas is at Eldorado Lake (it is a reservoir). The "developed" or "modern" (whatever they call it in the Kansas SP system) camping areas are full hookup, about 1/3 of all designated campsites, 165 of them. The other 300 or so are water/electric. I think the FHU sites may be in the Walnut River area, which is on the floodplain below the dam, not very wooded. The other camping areas are on points of land between coves, east and west sides of the reservoir.

I haven't yet checked out Santa Fe Lake, the closest impoundment to Wichita. My daughter recently moved there, and after checking out what is available in the area we kind of decided I wouldn't take the RV there, rather I'd take it to one of the nicer reservoirs in Oklahoma, and they could drive down from Kansas.

The closest is Kaw Lake, with about a half dozen COE campgrounds currently open. That's accessed going east from Ponca City. Our preference (because it is small and quiet) is Hulah Lake, where the Osage Nation runs a park they took over from the state, but that's about 130-140 miles from Wichita.

Thanks everyone for the replies. It looks like I will need to do some research. Thanks again and happy travels.

Not any immediate help, but the new casino a few miles north of the Oklahoma border will have its RV park operational in about a year.

There is a very nice KOA in Wellington, a few miles south of Wichita and just off I-35. Several years ago, it was pretty run down and we avoided it because of that; however, it has much changed since our first visit about 11 years ago.

El Dorado Lake has a State Park about 30 miles north on the turnpike. It was full when I was there.

There isn't much.This is a newer one http://aircapital-rvpark.com/
I am not familiar with it.
If you want a lake type setting lake Afton is about 10 mi west of 135 at the Haysville exit.
Chenny lake is about 25 miles NW of the Hwy 400 west exit.
Eldorado lake is 35mi E. of the 254 east exit.or take the turnpike and there is an exit right to it.the Walnut camp ground is our favorite there it's below the dam with lots of trees on a smaller lake.Oh and there is Santefe Lake owned by the city of Augusta
about 15 mi east of the hwy 400 exit,10mi from the Wichita city limits.
