Group Camping in Colorado

Hello:

We'd like to group camp next summer in Colorado for one weekend. We'd probably need about 10 sites. Are open to either reserving a full group campground (even if we don't use all the sites) or a group of sites in a non-group campground.

We would have a mix of tents and RVs (probably up to 35 feet in length).

Does anyone have any recommendations? If it's for a non-group campground, were there some good sites to choose? Perhaps some that are away from the rest of the campground or closer together, etc.

Never stayed at a group CG but some notes:

Always check to make sure RV's are allowed in the group area. They're not always allowed.

Camp Hale East is pretty isolated from the main Camp Hale CG and you get the whole thing to yourself. Also further from the highway and that noise. There are small ponds and streams to fish in the Camp Hale meadow.

Printer Boy near Turquoise Lake is on a loop of four group campsites so not quite as private. Also cooler and can open later in the year due to snow.

Bogan Flats has a group site quite separate from the main CG. Beautiful setting right on the Crystal River near Marble and Redstone. I've never been through the CG but seen trailer/RV tops poking through the trees.

There are a couple of group sites on CO 67 north out of Woodland Park. There are some lakes for fishing up there.

Near Lake Isabel in the Wet Mountains SW of Pueblo there are two group sites. Small to mid-sized RV's can fit up there, but turning a 38-40 foot trailer might be a challenge. The groups sites are well separated from the main CG's. Fishing in the lake. Bishops Castle (free) is worth an hour or two, esp. if there are kids 6-16 along.

Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora has group sites that will "allow plenty of space for 72 people and room to set up 24 tents, RVs
or campers, with a maximum of 12 RVs or campers. An additional 12 vehicles may park at the site. This site also has a shelter with
two bathrooms and a kitchen area. "

No need to make it hard just head up the road to Golden Gate Canyon SP If not just run out to Buena Vista and scout out a place that would work.

we have done both with groups and they both will keep you busy.

We're probably looking for central Colorado. It would be a family gathering and we live in the Denver metro area while other family live in the North West, North East, and West part of the state. Hopefully trying to find something that's an okay drive for all (under 3 hours).

As far as activities, we like to fish, hike, ATV, bicycle. Near water (either lake or stream/river) would be awesome.

What area of Colorado. What activities do you all do?

I would really recommend that you get a group site. It will be the least expensive way to go. Also, if you get 10 sites together you are going to have so much fun gathering at one or two sites for meals, campfires, chatting that you will be disturbing your surrounding neighbors.

A public state park might be your best bet rather than a private RV park. Some RV parks don't allow tents. There are many wonderful state parks in Colorado. Pick your area and call the park ASAP.
