If you like history, be sure you check out the forts down there. Fort McAllister SP is a really great state park. They have a nice little museum and then there is a very large area where the bunkers are built right into the sand dunes. The dunes are covered with grass now, but it's very interesting.

Fort Pulaski is on the way to Tybee Island. I have not been there yet, but we're going next month. I love history myself, so I can never get enough of forts.
