Help with Sept/Oct trip Seattle to Phoenix

Hi everyone,

We are making a trip from Seattle to Phoenix, the end of September into the first week of October. We will be traveling in a 20' Cruise America motorhome. Our thoughts are to travel away from the coast, to Bend, OR, into northern CA, then western NV and western AZ. Should we be concerned about possible winter weather? Any route/scenic attractions information is appreciated. Campground/boondocking suggestions are also appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Kathy

We are getting ready to depart on our adventure in a Cruise America motorhome from Seattle to Phoenix. Any last words of advice for routes, attractions, parks, etc? Right now, thinking of going towards Leavenworth, then down through Yakima and on to Bend, Or, then maybe over to Lakeview or Klamath Falls. Which route would be better? After that, thinking about northern CA then western NV, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Lake Havasu, and Quartzite before heading east to Phoenix. Your thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Kathy

Thanks for the info. More route/attraction information would be appreciated. Are Mt Rainier and Mt. Hood parks worth stopping at? It appears National forest campgrounds will be closing early Sept. so boondocking will be our next choice. What would be good boondocking routes, maybe in NV or AZ?

Thanks again,

Kathy

When you get closer to your departure date you can use http://www.wunderground.com/roadtrip/

It's great for giving you clear expectations on what to expect on the entire trip.

We did the reverse of this trip in December a few years ago with no weather problems except a little rain.

Thanks for the replies thus far. My weather concerns are for the northern end of our journey. Concerned about snow in the higher elevations of WA and OR. Thought the first leg would take us through Yakima then south toward Bend and towards Lakeview as suggested. Thanks for that info, the area sounds just like what we are looking for, scenic but desolate. Keep the info coming!

No, you won't have any winter weather along your route. Also, it will still be summer in Phoenix. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a good trip!

Consider leaving 97 below Bend, head east to Lakeview and then to Winnemucca via the state routes. Really desolate there, but beautiful. Lots of places to boony there. Then down Nevada toward Vegas, Boulder Dam, and Phoenix. Very little Interstate that way.

It is still very hot here at that time. Starts cooling off at night at least usually in October though. Hope you get a coach with good a/c.
