Lake Cachuma, CA question

We're thinking about staying at Lake Cachuma in June. Can someone recommend where the better sites with lake view (out the rear trailer window) are? Never stayed there and only drove through it about 6 years ago so I don't remember much. Any advice on the more desirable sites would be great.

We like site 132 which is water and electric only. While we faced the lake with a view out the front of our Class C, if you have a long electric cord and hose, I think you can park facing in either direction...in this site or any of the sites #125 - 131. They also have a nice dump station. I would stay away from the FHUs which we didn't find to our liking. I believe the FHUs are in the oldest part of the cg. Also, remember the water level is very, very low so be prepared.

Also agree with a previous post, take a look at the on-line map and you will have a better idea of what is where.

Have fun. We always do when camping there.

Interesting they take reservations now. Even First come we never had trouble getting a decent site, even on busy weekends. We like it and go at least once a year, but more for the proximity to Solvang than for fishing, and most of the sites are big and open. Our favorites are the ones that back up to the big grass fields and near the shower house. Casitas near Ojai is nice too.

Thank you and I'll check those sites out. We've stayed at Casitas and I agree it's nice. We're going there again in a few months. Always wanted to try Cachuma.

The map should help. The best lake views are on west side Dakota section-no hookup. Check out Barona Shores and Barona Butte area if no hookup is OK.
Portions of Barona section is more typical full hookup RV park, some of the sites on the far west side may have views, not certain if you can see lake from RV. There are some water and electric sites in Apache area but I don't think they are directly adjacent to the lake. If you arrive on a weekday you should be able to scout around and come up with something nice.

I thought it was first come first served no reservations. Used to go fishing there all thebtime. If they were full you got into overflow area. Is it reservations now?

Yes, they now take reservations I just found out and you can do it through their website. We camp up that way a lot but never at Cachuma because of the former no-reservation policy.
