Moosehead Lake in Maine

Can anyone recommend a CG in the area of Moosehead Lake Maine. Thanks in advance.

Lily Bay St Park is beautiful!! No hookups as of 3 yrs ago when I went. Beautiful spots on a Great Lake and beach area. Shower / bath houses are only @5 yrs old and very nice!
9 miles into town for groceries, library (internet) laundry etc.

We liked Lily Bay SP but watch out for the foxes, don't leave anything out. Crooks stole one of my wife's rubber shoes...

If you want water/electric hook-up, try Moosehead Family Campground. Very quiet, small campground.

I would choose Seboomook over The Birches, and Balsam Woods (Abbot) over them both! Although Balsam Woods is a drive to the lake, it is a beautiful place to stay.

I'd second trying to get a spot at the Birches. Lovely spot.

Lilly Bay SP is about the best SP in northern Maine. It is not to far from Greenville so you can get to town, and is large enough to offer the privacy you seek. Plenty of wildlife and sightseeing there, plus an easy drive to Baxter SP and Mt Katahdin. Have stayed there many times and it is the one I will recommend in that area.

"The Birches" has a couple of sites at there Marina right on the lake. Very quite, great food in the lodge, and evening Moose Cruises on a pontoon boat into the coves. White Water rafting is also avail in the area.

If you really want to get away from it all, there is Seboomook up at the north end. I was there probably about 15 years ago and really enjoyed it. You have to travel up a dirt road that is owned by the paper mill company. At that time it was dusty and rough. But - moose, loons, starry skies, a beautiful river nearby, and the lake. Not all of the amenities but a real slice of Maine.
