Planning 5-7 day trip in Western NC to checkout the waterfalls, near end of July. Planning to stay couple days near Bryson City, couple near Murphy, couple near Highlands, all at National Forest Campgrounds(don't need hookups). Any suggestions or info will be appreciated and welcomed. Thanks, Pops

DO NOT try to take an RV up 64/28 past Van Hook Glade Campground(or down from Highlands). Either park at Cliffside Lake (just before you get to Van Hook, nice picnic area and hike around the lake), unhook a toad and drive up to Bridal Veil and Dry Falls, stop and look at Cullasaja falls as well, OR spend the night at Van Hook Glade (no hookups). There is another falls in the area between Highlands and Scaly Mtn on Hwy 106. You will need your toad for that one as well. Glen Falls trail is a bit tough.

North Carolina Waterfalls.info may help you find more water falls. Be careful as some of the falls listed are on private property. I know for a fact that a visit to Burningtown Falls has in the past involved getting shot at. I have friends who used to live down the road from the falls. Property owners were tired of the tourists trashing their land and took to shooting at those who were under the illusion they had the right to tramp all over any private property.

Also just outside of Clayton (GA... Hwy 76W from Clayton then take 197 @ the Moccasin Creek SP sign) is Rabun Beach Campground(W/E only, bathhouses and a nice lake beach) where you can camp and walk to the trail head that leads up to Panther Falls and Angel Falls. This is a popular campground on weekends, so you may want to hit it during the week. Also a good place to day trip into Helen (GA) from.

Stop and see Dry Falls between Franklin & Highlands on highway 28. You can walk under the falls. If you are closer to Murphy, go down highway 294 and see Field of the Wood. The Ten Commandments are written in 5 foot high letters on the side of a mountain. And go see the elk herd in GSMNP.
