Places to rv camp in Colorado

We are new to rving and are wanting to plan a trip to Colorado next June and would appreciate any suggestions of good campgrounds. We enjoy hikes, fishing, kayaking, and beautiful scenery. We also have a pup (border collie) we'll be bringing along so pet friendly is important too. Would really like a more private campground rather than rvs on top of one another but not sure if this is possible? Our specific loaction of interest is flexible....a lake and 14 footers would be ideal. :)We will be pulling a Trail Manor 2720SL pull behind camper. Thanks for any and all input.

This year we stayed at Rifle Falls State Park loved it. Montrose KOA is a good basecamp for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The KOA at Cortez is a great basecamp for the Mesa Verde National Park and Durango.

Priest Gulch campground along Dolores river was a nice full hookup private campground. Many sites backed up to river, free firewood provided at time of my visit (late Sept '15). Good site spacing for a private park. I stayed there as an overnight stop after driving on highway 145. Only gripe I saw on reviews was some people thought it not kid friendly.

Many many great spots to camp in Colorado.

I could give you lots of suggestions of state parks or national forest, but they are either no hook ups or maybe electric.

If you are planning a weekend trip in June you will likely need to reserve 6 months in advance.

For Colorado, just study a map and go there! You can't go wrong. The state parks are very nice as are the forest service campgrounds. The area around Denver will be more crowded than the western side of Colorado, our favorite. Your pup will be welcomed at any public campground. Have fun planning.
