Rampart Range Colorado

Hello,
Does anyone recommend Rampart Range for camping/atv riding? I see online there are areas for dispersed camping and a lot of trails. I was looking for info from any personal experience out there. Is the road/camping areas decent for a larger trailer? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!

It's been many years since I've done it, but yes, I have. From south to north. Some good camping areas at the beginning, but tight for anything bigger than a popup. Most tenters there, folks with trailers/MH usually stay at Chambers Lake.

Had a Jeep CJ at the time, it was a challenge, primarily due to boggy/muddy conditions fairly early (early July) in the season. It dries out a bit later in the season, though not a lot. Some areas are permanent bogs/mud pits, but there's trails around them, some legal, some not. Don't think it would really be suited for ATVs due to the bogs/mud pits. It hasn't changed much over the years and the USFS has shut it down on occasion to allow it to recover some. In addition to the bogs/mud pits, there's lots of rocky areas as well, suited for a Jeep to challenge.

If you Google Green Ridge Trail, there's some pictures that will give you a better perspective of what I'm talking about. Though it's been years since I've been on it, the trail hasn't changed much over the years; degree of difficulty simply changes with each new season.

I have done that trail on a Raptor700. We had a guy on a crf450x dirtbike and another buddy on a polaris850. I think it was last fall we ran from killpecker road down to that trail and all the way to chambers lake. Chilled there for a bit. What kind of quad are you planning on using? I advise to have someone that has a 4 wheel drive ATV with you to test some of the mud holes you will come across. Some are long and deep, but have alternate routes to go around, you just need to find them. Plan a few hours one way and plan on getting muddy. I would still wait a few weeks before going that route due to all the rain. I want to hit it again.

Idleglen up by Grand Lake is OHV friendly and lots of dispersed camping. Rampart Range road is rough, it will bounce the snot out of your trailer. I will only tent camp along there. Lots of trails and LOTS of people on the weekends. I reccomend North Park area, State Forest state park has camping by the Michigan res you can ride from. The dunes up at Walden are fun, plus lots of logging roads on the west side of north park, around Big Creek lakes.

I live by the Berthoud track. Gould is very close to Rand. Teller city trails. Big rig friendly. I doubt they will open Redfeather for couple weeks yet. Cherokee park is just North of Redfeather.

Divide OHV is close to their and has some spots for medium sized rigs. Round Mountain/Tarryall area is good easy camping and lots of roads/trails just not as good trailwise as rainbow or Divide.

Thanks guys for the info. Morphrider I live north of Denver and we were up west of Red Feathers last weekend but Deadman's was closed at 169 so we didn't get to ride too much in our favorite spots, so I started looking into Rampart but have heard it gets pretty nutty down there with crowded trails. My fifth wheel is 30'. I will look up Gould, I have camped around Rand before and love that area. I've not heard of Cherokee Park before but any info would be great.
Once again thanks for the replies

There is tons of trails there. How big is the rig? It is very crowded on weekends, so best bet is week day camping. Where are you located in Colorado, I can suggest better areas depending on where you are, how far you want to go. We have just recently been going to Gould, South of Walden. I have done Redfeather area, Cherokee park, Larimer river valley. All will accommodate big rigs and less traffic.

I use to spend a lot of time riding the trails. It was before I had the RV. I remember some switch backs on the road up. It's been years since I've been there. I remember lots of good times riding the trails.

The road going up the back side was a steep climb as well.
