Looking for some places in RGV to spend jan- mar 2015. We have a Class A 39 ft. Winnebago my wife is 69 and I'm 65, we are not real active, like quiet and lots of space between rigs. Understand some of the places in the valley are not as nice any more as they used to be, so information about the place you stayed at this year would be appreciated also the price you had to pay. Thanks for any information you can contribute.

With nearly 500 parks there are very few where you will need reservations. Just come down, get a spot for a week and see what you like. Be aware many parks are either on business or expressway 83 and can have a lot of traffic noise. I like the parks on S Bentsen Palm Drive just west of Mission. They are away from the highway and near the World Birding Center, National Butterfly Center, Bentsen Rio Grande State Park, Mission Nature Park and paved biking trails. Bentsen Palm Village, Retama Village, Val's Country Coral, Golden Grove, Green Gate Grove, Americana, & Bentsen Grove. Americana usually has early season specials by the week, just ask.

Dale gave you the best information, as what you like or don't like will not be the same as anyone else. There will never be "no vacancy", as there are over 500 camp grounds in the RGV. We too like the Mission area, as we found it quieter than further south, yet has all the things we like to do.

Fortunately in the valley there are lots of options. We are in Mission in the winter and we are about 90 miles inland from Brownsville. In between the landscape is dotted with RV parks. My advice is to come down and drive through the valley. . . when you find an area that looks interesting, find a park and stop awhile. If that's not to your liking, move on. You will always be able to find a spot and then you can explore and find the area that suits you best.
