Suggestions please - North shore of Lake Superior

I'm planning a week long trip to the north shore of Lake Superior north of Duluth, MN in September. I'd appreciate any suggestions of excellent RV parks to accommodate larger fifth wheels and also activities and attractions that you have found interesting.

Grand Marais for sure.

Take a trip up the Gun Flint Trail. The pizza is so-so but the walleye is great!

We took that trip about 14 years ago and at the time we had to change to August because so many parks were closed. May be different now but we sent for information from the states and province and got something on both RV parks and state and NF parks. Go to Ontario and Michigan tourist sites to see if you can get anything.
We had a wonderful trip.
And once in the UP we had snow in August.

At Grand Marais, be sure to walk out past the coast guard station to Artist's Point. I missed it the first time around, didn't know it was there. Caught it on the 2nd trip.

Get a pizza at Sven and Ole's, too. Yum!

There are several state parks along highway 61 going up the North Shore, however, if you want full hookups you have limited choices.
Burlington Bay Campground, the city park in Two Harbors.
The City of Grand Marais Rec Park, in Grand Marais.
The Grand Portage Casino campground in Grand Portage.

That's it!
The area is beautiful and well worth the trip. Both Two Harbors and Grand Marais are nice towns with stuff to see and do. Both city campgrounds are right on Lake Superior, and within walking distance to town.
Grand Portage is pretty far up, and there's not a lot to do there IMHO, except a National Historic Site that's nice.

Heading up there ourselves next week sometime, or the week after from our trip to Alaska (a whole other story). Don't know a heck of a lot about the private campgrounds, but ANY state parks, which there are a lot of on the north shore, are great. This will be our second visit to MN, as we stayed for over a week the end of May, and stayed only at state parks. They have water, electricity, dump station and WiFi. They also have showers/bathrooms. Love Minnesota! A lot of hiking trails on the north shore, fishing (only state I know of that offer husband/wife fishing licenses), ATVing, biking. Go online and order your free travel MN guidebook. They are very quick to respond. ENJOY!
