Traveling from Florida to Los Angeles, California

This will be our first RV trip in our 1998 Class C RV which we purchased used for the purpose of this trip. We have no time limits as we are moving back to LA after being gone for ten years. We probably will drive the 10 Freeway route.

We need suggestions for campgrounds and points of interest going across the Country. We aren't interested in expensive resort type of campgrounds unless they are a good bargain.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much.

I would rather spend a couple of days in Frederickburg, Tx. than Kerrville. Day trip to Kerrville if you have the time.

Tonk Mom, Dockweiler has three rows beachfront $65, middle 60 and back 55. Golden Shores at Long Beach is further away and is 55 to 64 dollars a night plus one dollar per day for dogs. Anywhere near LA is pricy.

Let me go back in my records to find the name.
It was NOT Golden Shores.

Yes, it was Arbor, the only park we could get a space at the time.
Two days later we spent a night in the Queen Mary lot, and went to Sunday brunch and toured the ship.

Try to get into the County park on the beach , Dockweiler at Playa Del Rey Closest to LA.Since they close for maintenance during Jan, we stayed at Long Beach at Golden Shores which is a very nice pricy park not in a bad part of town. If you are an Elk there is a club with hook ups in Torrance but we were traveling with others. We just traveled from PA to Los Angeles to FL to home 7700 miles using mostly Passport America parks. The one in Las Cruches is near Old Town Mesina which has the wonderful La Posta Mexican restaurant. We stayed in Gulf Springs, AL. Boerne (near SA) Benson, Ft Stockton, Yuma, Quartzite,Desert Hot Springs, in PPA parks and in a county Park in Little Rock, Arkanas.

Nonsense on CHP looking for out of state plates. I spent 33 years wearing the CHP gold star and in the nine different areas I worked in NEVER heard a single officer ever mention "let's go get the out of staters".

I know you have valid reasons for going back to CA, and I love the geographic diversity of the Golden State, but ........

The LA area is huge. We have stayed in one Long Beach park which I can't find the name of anymore. It is without a doubt the worst place we have ever been.
On the eastern side, in the city of Redlands, is a park called Mission RV Park, which we recommend. It is a long way from central LA.
But like Geobiker said, it depends on the area you want.

Tonk Mom, what general area of LA are you looking for? LA proper, San Fernando Valley, Ventura Co., etc. Also, I assume you want to stay in your RV. Anyway, if you can give me a bit more details maybe I can do some web searching.

Thank you, Geobiker. I can't wait to get back home. Do you know any trailer parks in or around the LA area? The two in the Valley don't allow RV's older than 10 years and the one in Long Beach that does, is not in a very good area. I know there are trailer parks around, but I cannot find them on line to get a phone number.
