Beachfront Camping

OK folks, we're looking for camping this summer. We're from Tennessee and this will be our first long trip with our TT. DW wants to walk from the camper to the beach, the closer the better. We prefer the Gulf, but we're flexible. Any suggestions on campground close enough to the beach, if not ON the beach, to walk right to the ocean (less than 1/4 mile)? Thanks for any and all input!!

Looking into possibly going to Myrtle Beach Travel Park this summer. We have a large family and no tow vehicle. We would enjoy the beach but also getting outside the campground to see other attractions. Is there public transportation (trolleys) to get up and down the stretch of what they call the "Grand Strand"?

Ocean Lakes has a car rental place within it...

Henderson Bch SP in Destin, Fl has a very nice CG and it is a short walk through the dunes on a boardwalk to the beach

I second that, but good luck getting a spot without hitting on a spot made available by a cancellation or a with a long lead time. Locations on the southern Gulf coast of Texas are possibilities as well.

Fort Desoto state part nearvSt Petersburg Fl if that's not too far. Nice camp ground and great beach. Camp ground is more than a 1/4 mile but the campground has sites on some of the inlet bays in the park.

Better callnow, and even now may be too late for this summer

I can't help with public transportation but In the past when we were at MBTP without our toad, I had Thrifty deliver a rental to me at my site. Thrifty are located 3/4 of a mile from MBTP in the Walmart Super Center.

Great suggestion... hadn't thought of that.

If you like the Gulf, then look at Gulf State Park in southern Alabama. Nice place!

Keep in mind that RVs are not made of materials that stand up well being near salt water. Being next to the beach is fine for a few days but one day of onshore wind carrying salt spray will do damage in places you can't see, that you will be dealing with for years to come.

Best to find a CG at least a block or so from the beach.

Kidding right? Hundreds of thousands of RVs stay on the ocean Every year with no harmful effects. It's not like it's going to rust away on the way home. Well any more than the TV will.

Oh no! Our TT is stored at the beach...it's gonna rust away... ๐Ÿ˜ž Actually their storage lot is a good 1/4 mile from the water, maybe it will be ok. But I don't know about that 2 weeks I go coming up for camping there. lol

Absolutely agree Terryallan. I would add...what about the people who live near the ocean? Maybe like myself before just moving away from the Oregon coast. My cars have not rusted away... actually, my TT was stored less than 3 blocks from the OR coast and talk about wind and salt spray. No ill effects from living there for 9 years. Certainly, a few weeks is nothing.

Being a block away from the beach will be no different than being on the beach.

Cape Hatteras could be an option too, there is Ocean Waves, Camp Hatteras, and KOA, all 3 are right on the beach just behind the dunes with direct pedestrian access to the beach. National Park Service has a few campgrounds on the beach too, but those are dry camping...
