Traveling from Florida to Los Angeles, California

This will be our first RV trip in our 1998 Class C RV which we purchased used for the purpose of this trip. We have no time limits as we are moving back to LA after being gone for ten years. We probably will drive the 10 Freeway route.

We need suggestions for campgrounds and points of interest going across the Country. We aren't interested in expensive resort type of campgrounds unless they are a good bargain.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much.

Tonk Mom, don't know if you will be towing a vehicle behind your Class C, but if you are, once you hit California, the maximum speed for your RV towing a vehicle is 55. And, the CHP will be watching; especially if you have out of state plates. Just a friendly reminder. The upside is, you will save gas driving consistently at 55. Welcome Home! We Californians get a lot of bad press, but there sure are a lot of us. A transplanted Buckeye.

John Madden's favorite mexican restaurant in Van Horn is named Chuy's and sits midtown on the main drag. I used to eat there 5-6 times a year, but the last couple of times it had gone down in quality. To me, it is just another cafe.

When you get to Louisiana stop in New Orleans and see The National WWII Museum then drop down to Highway 90 stay at Lake Fausse Point State Park and explore Lafayette and the area, Then as mentioned San Antonio if you are a Dr, Pepper Fan the Dr, Pepper museum is in Waco, When you hit Arizona drop down to Tombstone and as you leave Arizona go to Lake Havasu and the London Bridge,

This recent post deals with traveling on and/or off from I-10 Texas, New Mexico & Arizona.

I-10 in parts of Texas (West of San Antonio) have a speed limit of 80 mph. It can seem like a raceway.

I would stop in San Antonio, do the River Walk, & Alamo, then take hywy 90, thru Uvalde,Del Rio, stop in Langtry, where judge Roy Bean held court, on west thru Alpine, Marfa.....interesting little town and also home of the mystery lights......rte 90 is a lot more leisurely than I10, get back on 10 at Van Horn, not much in Van Horn, there is a so-so restaurant where John Madden used to eat when traveling on his Bus, Madden never flew much is at all.

That's probably a very good idea. Since we can only drive at the maximum 60 MPH, it wouldn't necessarily take longer to stay off the freeways.

Thank you.
