TurboTax in Florida

I just found out the hard way that when you purchase a TurboTax CD in Florida, it does not include any state income tax software. I've been using TurboTax in Michigan for years and it always comes with free state income tax software. Since Florida has no state income tax, they conveniently omit the ability to download any state income tax software. When you try to download any state income tax software, it asks you for an additional $44.95. They will enable the state tax download free of charge, but it takes about a half an hour to deal with the foriegn tech support. When doing taxes, any unnecessary glitch becomes a major PITA.

We were in BJs Wholesale today and they had both versions of TurboTax Deluxe (with state and without state) but they only had one price on the display. I checked the SKU#s and they were different. I didn't bother taking them to check-out, since I wasn't going to buy either one. Online, BJs has a $10 difference in the price, but TurboTax charges $44.95 to add state to the non-state version.

I purchased mine at Walmart and am beginning to think that it may be a Walmart thing as much as a Florida thing. Walmart is known to purchase special production runs of products that are missing a feature or two, which allows them to buy and sell at a lower price than others. Florida not having a state income is probably just an excuse to do it.

I purchased the Home and Business version at Staples in Clermont FL and it had the state version included. Maybe they are just charging for states on the less expensive versions.

I'm in Texas. I purchased TurboTax Deluxe federal and state from Newegg. Cheaper than anywhere else.

I have never had a problem until this year. Have been buying software in Florida for years. This year, no state download. I believe Turbo tax has changed their policy and I will certainly reconsider any further purchases unless this is changed back to the way it was. Now they are just another "rip-off" company.

Not true for us here in Cortez. We bought the deluxe version at Best Buy in Bradenton and it included the state.
It has been that way for the last four years and have not had any trouble doing our Federal and having it automatically transfer the info to the state version.
We did our taxes back in February and we had our refund back within one week and within 10 days from NY.

I too was confused when I went to purchase it here in Florida.
I have always bought the Deluxe version in Michigan which always includes the free state form.

When I went to Sam's Club down here to get it I noticed the deluxe versions mentioned nothing about a free state form. The only version mentioning a free state form was the Premier version.

I wasn't sure if they had changed their practices and were now going to require people to purchase the higher cost version to get the free state form.

Just go to turbotax.com and do your taxes online without purchasing software. You pay when you file at the end and state and some city taxes can be done if you wish. We filed online and did federal, 2 different state taxes and a city tax.

Bought TurboTax Deluxe, not the cheap version. Also, tech support admitted that versions sold in states without state income tax do not contain an authorization code to download any state software.

EDIT. There is a TurboTax Deluxe NS (No State) version that is sold in states with no state income tax for the same price that versions with the state tax software sell for elsewhere.

A state program is not included in the cheaper versions of TurboTax, in any state.

TurboTax does no have specific versions for specific states.

So did you get it downloaded?

I live in WA (no income tax), and pay CA income tax, because I work there. They charge $39.95 for CA state tax on the online program.
