while boondocking. We plan a trip thru the southwest this winter and wonder where you fill you water tanks? Is it even an issue?

If we need water during our travels, most often we pull into a state park and fill up. Most of their day-use areas have a water spigot. As another poster said, make sure you have a "water thief" so that you can use any type of spigot connection.

Other times we have found water fill-ups at truck stops at no charge or a small fee.

Am I the only one that reads a post title and thinks of a clever answer like "...in low spots?"

There is probably a good reason I don't post a lot!

That being said, we leave home full of water also. When we need more, all of the answers so far have worked in the past.

Rule for boondocking in the West...dump and fill whenever available. Youโ€™ll be fine.

I've found that many service stations will also allow a fill. Purchase first can't hurt.

Well............. to be honest we fill ours before we leave home. I mean this is what the tank is for. For out 30 gallon tank the weight is like having one extra person in the car. No biggie

Believe it or not, ranger stations will often let you fill up. Tip: before asking about the water, first go to the front desk and buy a forest map (which are very useful).

Then ask about the water. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Be sure to carry a Water Thief (bad name, good gizmo). It slips over unthreaded faucets so you can connect your hose.

Not always, but often the same places offering a dump station have a potable hose outlet nearby.
If you havent used it, Sani Dumps may help with both task.
