I've been hoping to mod in a blu-ray player to our trailer. It has a DVD player already (a Jensen all-in-one unit), but half of our library is on Blu-Ray. Needed to be 12V to run on battery, and all that I had seen until now were $150ish ones for truckers.
Several weeks ago I ran across
this on woot.com for $38. It's on amazon for about $66 right now, and there are similar LG models that should also work as long as they're 12V. Or just keep an eye on woot.com, it will likely come up again.
Noticed on the back that it said "DC IN 12V" so I jumped and decided to see what I could make work.
I just got it installed and it works great. The power brick was rated for 12V 1A, so the unit probably takes less than half of that on average. I used two angle brackets and mounted it under a cabinet. Two screws and the cover came off the unit easily and showed me there was plenty of room for a couple of short screws to attach the angle brackets without hitting anything. Clipped the lead off the power brick and tapped it into power for the stereo (which was right above it), and ran an HDMI cable up to the TV.
It also does wifi and will play Netflix, youtube, from USB, and a few other tricks. Should serve us nicely.
