Finally found a reasonable 12v blu-ray player

I've been hoping to mod in a blu-ray player to our trailer. It has a DVD player already (a Jensen all-in-one unit), but half of our library is on Blu-Ray. Needed to be 12V to run on battery, and all that I had seen until now were $150ish ones for truckers.

Several weeks ago I ran across this on woot.com for $38. It's on amazon for about $66 right now, and there are similar LG models that should also work as long as they're 12V. Or just keep an eye on woot.com, it will likely come up again.

Noticed on the back that it said "DC IN 12V" so I jumped and decided to see what I could make work.

I just got it installed and it works great. The power brick was rated for 12V 1A, so the unit probably takes less than half of that on average. I used two angle brackets and mounted it under a cabinet. Two screws and the cover came off the unit easily and showed me there was plenty of room for a couple of short screws to attach the angle brackets without hitting anything. Clipped the lead off the power brick and tapped it into power for the stereo (which was right above it), and ran an HDMI cable up to the TV.

It also does wifi and will play Netflix, youtube, from USB, and a few other tricks. Should serve us nicely.

more often than not... they leave the refurb cycle better than new... they do not want to see them back.

As little power as a DVD and tv require I would just use 110V model with a small PSW inverter such as a GO POWER 150. Most 12V DVD/TV do not seem to hold up as well.

Yes, and refurbished means it already broke once. Also enough of them broke that they had a big batch to sell. However, I'm willing to take the chance for $40 on this. It's not a critical item, if it breaks I'll find some way to survive ๐Ÿ™‚

We have gone through 3 DC LED TV units in 3 years. Switched to a Toshiba 110 AC model that runs off a tiny dedicated inverter and no problems since that time. All the Jensen, Polaroid, Skyworth, etc. are made in China as cheaply as possible. Our Skyworth died the first trip out and we sent it in for repair under its warranty and they swapped out the main planar board and on the following trip it lasted less than 10 minutes. At that point it went to the electronics recycle bin at the local dump.
