I was putting new Maxx Air vent covers on the vents of the TT and and was drilling the holes for the brackets. Put the drill to one side, but not far enough to one side and it fell over and hit the vent cover and shattered it into little pieces. the Maxx air is OK it is the crank up one that broke. sure enough it is the one for the bathroom and not an easy one to describe to the operator to get a new one, sure enough she told me wrong. glad I caught it before I ordered it. I went ahead and put the Maxx air in place since it suppose to rain today. that was the good thing about this, at least I had the vent covered.

I'll keep mine short and sweet:

Tail wag. Rear quarter panel of brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Oops.

Only thing damaged on my TT was corner trim. I bent back in place and caulked it all up nicely.

figured I was clear of a tree on a corner, spotter was waving me back, tree was between the truck and trailer, coildnt see it as it was a 4' stump that didnt clear the box height and pushed the back bumper up into the tailgate to the point where I could not get into the bed past my bakflip tonneau cover as I couldnt open the tailgate to unlock the cover. cooler full of rotten meat by the time I got to it 4 days later and a nasty smell following the truck after day 2 in 35degC weather. was an expensive $2600 weekend.

I think everyone's done some stupid stuff...we get distracted, or something like that, and voila! Instant mess.

For me, the dumbest thing I did was with our old tow vehicle, 1988 Suburban. We had bought a Rockwood and were enjoying the heck out of all the trips we made. In one campground, their sites are all in a "star" pattern so there are 5 sites, but at the back you get much more room than at the front. I was pulling in and started backing up the trailer. I stopped to examine a tree that was kind of leaning over to make sure I didn't scrape. I opened the back doors to the Suburban because I was going to pull out the boards/chocks, got back in, and backed up at a hard angle. Next thing I know, I got one of the doors smack in the front of the new fiberglass front on Rocky (the Rockwood). A nice big gash in it, luckily it never leaked.

Speaking of stupid, 2 years later, an older gentleman who had swerved for some reason rear ended the rig @ 70 mph while I was pulled over on the shoulder changing a flat. I was in the back of the trailer (rear bathroom, storage area) and narrowly avoided getting killed. The car tore right through that fiberglass and aluminum, missed my head by about 6 inches. I was upset at first but found out later he had his grandson in the vehicle and the struts/uprights went through the windshield and A-pillar striking the child in the head. ๐Ÿ˜ž I guess he recovered, thankfully.

That's how we lost our Rockwood, but we had replacement insurance on it so it didn't turn out too badly.

Too many stupid things to do in RV's, I'm constantly banging my thick head on the bedroom slide when I go to check the water heater (which is about 5 feet from the slide) ๐Ÿ˜•

I was adding a half dome LED light over the sink area of my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer.

I had to cut-out the hole for the assembly in the ceiling and then using a fish tape punch a hole from the ceiling fixture to the side wall where I could find some 12VDC lines. All went well and was cleaning out the ceiling areas of residue from cutting and poking around.

Just a bit later I went to the shop for some screws to mount my junction box on the side wall behind the valance curtains. When I came back into the trailer I noticed this small orange looking dot on the floor. Sure enough it was coming from the dome light area. I had penetrated the roof with my drill and the orange dot was the sunlight shinning thru the hole haha...

Couldn't believe I did that... I guess we all do something like this one time or another...

Been there, done that, paid $800 for the T-shirt! Getting ready to leave a campground last year and both the wife and I forgot that the awning was still open. Pulled forward until that dang tree decided to not move out of the way. We both heard a noise and I stopped immediately and saw the awning against the tree. Backed up and retracted the awning - it still worked, but the arm had a small crack where one of the upper bolts connected. And of course I couldn't buy just that piece - they only sell the complete awning arm assembly - parts and labor came to $800 - lesson learned!

Did you know that you can break out your side window on the Yukon by turning too tight - going forward?

Well... You can!

I was turning around getting ready to park for a tailgate weekend and the front of the camper pushed on the black plastic molding above the tail light, which pushed forward into the side window and glass everywhere.

I always knew that I had to be careful backing up... But going forward?

I like learning everyday, but some lessons cost more than others...

Backed out of the driveway without unplugging the shore power cord from that brand spanking new 30 amp outlet I installed in the garage. The only damage was a broken door on the electrical compartment. That was 5 years ago and that door is still broken. It locks closed so I let it ride. All that is missing is a triangular chip about 1/2 inch to a side at the hole where the cord is supposed to come through.

Driving down the road with the front open where the genny is. It didn't hurt anything but sure looked funny.

Working on roof and leaning over and busting rotten skylight. I ordered all new ones for the old American Eagle, one had to be special made but they all definitely needed replaced. We recoated the rubber roof and took everything off the top.

Thought the wiper switch was broken, told hubby, he ordered a new one and put it on, worked exactly the same, sigh. It was me.

Doing a uturn once and couldn't get the motorhome and toad turned and had to unhook the toad while a rent a cop was chastising me for blocking the road and threatening to call police. Like hubby said, you should have told him to go ahead and then help you. A nice man did help me. Only time I've ever done that so far. But I won't say I will never do it again.

Kept thinking the oil was low on the genny in my second motorhome and dawned on me one day I was overfilling it as I wasn't checking it when the motorhome was leveled. That was about the dumbest. I had to clean and wipe off a lot of oil under it. STUPID!
