50 amp plug

We have a 2018 Eagle 5th wheel and the 50 amp cord won't hook into the camper. We used the camper a couple of times last year and it would hook up ok then.

Has anyone else had trouble with the power plugging into the RV?

Glad the dis on yours was so simple. Yes, the Smart Plug is pricy, and night and day different with how solid the metals are as well the connections feel. With Power, I donโ€™t scrimp.

I found this and couldn't remember where I saw it. One of our RVs got so hot on that Marinco connector almost caught fire. Melted because of the weight on the cord I guess on one leg or prong. I'm a believer of smart plug and currently changing everything over. Pay now or later as I see it.

You wonโ€™t be sorry! A buddy had a connector he added to his Marinco to reduce the weight when connected. Rain got in creating an arc that welded the two together. This was just before I converted our rig to 50 amp so my decision was easy.

Wow, they sure are proud of those plugs and connectors, over $200 for plug and connector. I think I'll stick to my 90 degree twist and lock.

Only sounds expensive until you price out what the replacement cost is on the OEM Furrion parts that most RV manufacturers use, that are garbage. Furrion is a partner of Lippert...Imagine that.

On a side note the first thing I would do is pull the wall connector loose and check the wiring on a new trailer. On our 17 Rockwood those connections were loose and arcing. Found it 3 days after the purchase. On the other end at the AC breakers those connections were so tight the heads of the lugs were stripped out, and the copper conductors were smashed to the point if you moved then they snapped off. Had to replace every breaker.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

Thanks for reporting back. Too often this does not happen.

It ended up being one of the prongs was slightly bent. Once bent back we were able to hook up again.

Check out the Smart Plug at www.smartplug.com. I installed one on mine two years ago, it has worked flawlessly and with a much stronger feel that the old twist lock style.

a little corrosion on the metal surfaces causing the plug to bind? Fine sandpaper or steel wool then WD-40 or dielectric grease might do the trick.

Keep trying. It worked once, it will work again. Ask the guy/gal next door to show you.

Assuming a twist lock at the camper, you start a little counterclockwise from top dead centre, push it in, twist clockwise and spin the threaded retainer tight.

There's a little silver locator ball that goes in a slot before you push in.

I live in Jasper too.
