A question about tires on three axle fifth whl trailers.

Before we bought our DP we were looking at fifth wheel trailers. When looking at three axle trailers specifically, I was curious if three axle trailers suffered more tire damage or wear & tear because the front and rear axles slide sideways more when making tight turns in and out of parking lots or when getting into some parking places?

What's been your experience?

Triple Axle TH, ST235/75R16E Towmaster, 19,000GVW, 4000# pin, 6 years service, turned tightly into many campgrounds, traveled Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California. NEVER deflated, NEVER over 65mph, NEVER curbed, NEVER had flat or blowout. Just the facts here, no opinions. Call me lucky if you want, but they served me well. And BTW....if ANYONE ever pulled along side to flag me down for a tire problem I would be mortified! I believe the DRIVER should be able to see those tires at all times and be the FIRST to notice a problem. I have seen trailer after trailer after trailer pull into the campground (even my own friends and family!) with uncared for tires. I wonder how anybody makes it down the road sometimes? Buying a super duper G rated or above TOUGH tire will cover a lot of neglect and abuse failures. TPMS is another safeguard for that. Whatever it takes I guess?

Where did you get this mis-information? Pick up an E rated MIchelin RIB, then an ST China made tires and compare weight and sidewall thickness....You're misinformed on ST tires.

X what ever the count is now.
I think the ST ( Special trailer) part really confused most folks.

Bill, those with serous TH'ers soon blow or dump before they blow the standard fair cheap ST tires that so many trailers come with OEM. Many install LT235/85R16E Michelin XPS Ribs or Bridgestone Duravis R250. Both of these on steel ply caracss tires with rib style tread closed out ribs. They will slide in corning better than anyone of the ST tire on the market today, as they basically all have a tread that looks like a A/S tire.

I have long thought that the ST tire tread is one of its great pitfalls, with too much breaks in the tread causing it to grab the payment and tear itself apart.

Please post a link to actual testing that supports that statement. Those with knowledge state they fall between car tires and LT tires in that regard. Chris

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.
