Team,

I'll keep this one brief... a picture tells a thousand
stories. Great time at Usery...4 quick nights... high 72
low 50.

what the fiver taught me this time...

- regardless of what you think you know... extend the 50 amp
cable all the way to the power pole... before you unhook.
Guess-timation necessitates re-hook-up ! 6"'s might as well be
6'.

- check your 5ver (emergency) brake release cable.... apparently,
I had too much slack in mine... got caught under the sliding hitch frame...
did not disconnect , but did bend the male/female connecting
unit. Noticed it when I went to disconnect at the storage facility.
Tighter then the clasp on my wallet ! I had to release the "slider" hitch,
once disconnected was able to get the cable free. Glad it did not "pull the brake"
plug out on the freeway. Will be purchasing a new cable soon...

- probably not a good idea to run the coffee pot, electric skillet, oven fan and light
and microwave at the same time.... the GFI did what it was 'sposed to do... sad part...
I repeated the exercise this a.m....slow learner.

- one of the downsides to the fancy digital air pressure gauges is the necessity to
have back-up batteries. Apparently, almost proprietary. Don't be like me...both digitals dead.
The search for these mini discs (need to wear jewelers loops to read the size !) is on... will buy extras.

enough for now... can't hardly wait for the next weekend... man, this
one was perfection !

Naturist,

Most excellent advice... I'll check. I too suspect
Nikita may be involved... wait 'til you try to locate
a single fan blade screw for your ceiling fan ! Hen's teeth.

I heard a neighbor experience the dreaded 5ver crunch
(you know the sound... metal on metal = instant nausea)
...forgot to lower his tailgate. I tipped my beer in his
direction....and wiped a tear.

The Rv'ing Gods can be vengeful....

@cdlaine, I have discovered that there are, in fact, two quick-connects in use on RV propane systems, an "old" one and a "new" one. The trouble is that you can't tell either by the rigs age or by eye which is which, they appear to differ only by the few thousandths of an inch, just enough to be incompatible. (I think it is a commie plot, but I could be wrong.)

In any case, my local RV dealer has two big boxes of the male ends for each. They are about $7 each, and last time I needed one to hook up my grill, I bought one of each, and took the "wrong" one back for refund, which they were happy to give. I'll bet that RV dealers in your neighborhood stock both as well. (In case you don't live near an RV dealer, my guy is RB Taylor & Sons in Lynchburg, VA. Friendly, helpful folks, and I'm sure they'd be happy to pull a pair from those boxes for ya and mail 'em.)

As well, don't need a special regulator, just need to lose the regulator on the grill to use the quick connect. That line is already regulated to the pressure you need for the grill, and you'll get nothing at all if the grill also has a regulator on it. My grill (regulator removed -- it was purchased with an eye to RV use) works like a charm off that line.

Jerry,

A couple of quick points... I ordered the Camco quick release
valve (with an on / off dial)... it fits the 5ver underside
quick release but the nipple for the hose attachment does not
match up ...so, need to locate a correct fit adaptor...(unless I'm
looking at it incorrectly ??? (entirely possible). As such could not use my grill.

The bird... 12 hr. brine... soy sauce/Kosher salt/sugar/herbs (thyme/
celery seed/sage). H20. Pat dry... hand rub with Canola oil.
Sm. bird (9 lb.) .... smoker --- mesquite x 3 1/2 hrs. total cook..
6.75 hrs., internal bird temp. ... 180. Pulled and wrapped in foil x
30 min. . Not exaggerating when I say it was very good. Tender , juicy, moist...evenly
done thru-out. Simple but effective. Only opened the smoker once to show a begging
fellow camper ! Ha ! Mercy ! next day samwhiches....mighty tasty.

I'll get the grill quick connect figured out... tried it straight from
the propane tank...(as expected) too low of pressure... a healthy sneeze would blow it out.
Do not expect I'll need a special regulator
as the (under 5ver) connection point is down stream from the propane tank regulator.
(I did look at the port hole... very small...would expect one of those long forgotten Physics Laws...
???
Bernoulli/Laplace/etc. is in effect. Hehehehehehe ! (someone will
be along shortly to re-educate me... ).

Man. I just love gettin' out there...anywhere.

Charles; did you grill that bird, using your quick connect? I'm curious if you needed a special regulator to go with your extended gas line?

I liked the jet trails best myself! Very serene, across the evening sky!

Looks like a good time was had by all, well, except for that guy in the second photo, who appears to have been, um, "well used."

Just remember to keep a goodly supply of dope slaps on hand at all times for those moments when you'd profit from the speedy application thereof. Wish I coulda been there, but glad you enjoyed my share for me this time out.
