Awning stuck closed...I hope!

We bought our 1998 Jayco Designer 29RKS from a dealer who picked it up at an auction. The awning will not open, and we haven't a clue as to how to do it without breaking something. We don't want to force it, have it end up out, and not be able to bring it back in. We're open to any and all advice. We've done all the logical things that we did when we had our little motorhome with an awning, but it's not working on this one!

Thanks!

Oh...that would be nice. The shape other things were in...anything is possible. I'll be looking for things like that!

Also, my buddy had that problem one time and it ended up being a little rock jammed between one of the arms when it closed. Took us a while to figure it out but once we dis-lodged it, it opened and closed without problems.

Definitely manual, and we cut the zip ties that were on it. We didn't see any spring loaded pin locks, but I can look again....

Look around real close to make sure they don't have tie wraps or some kind of after market "awning secure" on it. Check for spring loaded pin locks on the sides of the arms. It is manual, not electric, right? You didn't say.....

That's what I thought you meant, and yes, it does seem to turn rather freely. 😞 If we can't get it to release, are we just doomed?

Yup something like above there...

The strap is free. The awning just doesn't want to release to come forward. So...I'll keep listening to all your ideas, and try everything! Something will have to work!

Thanks!

Is there a strap hanging down? Ours got pulled up into the awning roll and I had to use a ladder to get up to the awning, flip down the lever and pull the awning down until I could find the strap.

I had one that was a little racked. I use to have to wiggle towards the front and back to unstick it.

Is the flip catch stripped?

May be just turning on the little shaft there.
If it is some vice grips might squeeze it enough to turn it and un-lock.
Be careful!
