Bang! Woke up to my bedroom awning's spring letting loose

I thought a tree branch or heavy object had landed on my awning just before dawn.

Got up there with a flashlight and found nothing had fallen, but the awning fabric was limp instead of stretched taut. The material looks ok, it's just not being stretched tight by the awning like it should.

Any possibility of repairing this, or am I looking at replacing the awning assembly?

Right choice! Been through that twice!

Your discription of something falling on the roof is right on!

X2 what Peg Leg says. Be extremely careful. The spring tension is very high (it has to been to hold the fabic in place in the wind, etc). Find the manufacturer and see what their web site has to say about replacing the spring.

Be careful. The torsion rod spring can hurt you. Working on a ladder isn't going to simplify or improve the safety of the process.

Google "carfree awning parts" and you will find sites with drawings and part numbers. www.pplmotorhomes.com carries many and reasonabley priced.

Sorry- 2001 model Jayco Designer. Don't know the awning manufacturer. I'll get up there again and look.

The main awning is made by Carefree I'm pretty sure, and the others are probably the same.

What manufacturer and model number?
It could be the spring or just the pin that holds the tension. Hard to diagnose long distance.
