Changing the vinyl insert along the roof any tips ?

Hi all need to change the vinyl inch weather strip along the top 40ft each side, any tips or tricks
1. can I pull it through attached to the old one ?
2.heard a plastic knife to help it in and drop it into warm water before

Yes having to put on hold my ladder just reaches the top windows will have to wait till I get a new neighbor with a longer ladder, not sure about lying on the roof

Could also just lay on the roof and work down. Saves you from having to move the ladder every few feet.

Thanks all Iโ€™m on the road and I have an extendable ladder which should reach, any suggestions on a frame ladders which you all carry with you I may upgrade.

Agree with above, pinch it in as you go. It is near impossible to pull a 40' length, and you don't want to stretch the plastic, causing it to shrink over time.

Lay the plastic insert on the roof, full length, using a weight to hold it there.

As said easiest is to put one side in then use your fingers to pinch or fold it and put the other side in. So if you're on a ladder put the top edge in the rail then pinch or fold it and put the bottom edge in the rail and let go. Start at one end and move across until you get to the other end.

Not sure what yours looks like but mine are basically a screwed on trim piece that has a snap in vinyl insert. If so then you just need to squeeze the insert to fit inside the groves on the trim piece. Sometimes you can just push in the top or bottom followed by the other side. Pretty simple.
