Since there does not currently seem to be a Jayco owners forum, Moderator Frank has graciously allowed this thread. It will be for discussing Jayco related questions and comments. Anything not Jayco related will be deleted. Sounds more than fair to me. Thank-you Frank!

I decided to go with a portable 50A Surge Guard...only thing with this is I'm not protected when the generator is running so I'm going to buy some portable plug-in surge protectors for the big ticket items...

Has anyone put an electrical outlet in their front compartment??

Yes, I did. Look behind the panel where the inverter and central vacuum plug up. I plugged up a surge strip there, like you use for a computer, and mounted it up inside the front compartment. The inverter and converter cord are plenty long enough to reach and you have plenty of outlets to spare. I added a fridge and TV to my basement with a satellite hook up, as well. I will try to post a pic.

It has never tripped a breaker.

You know we can sympathize with you as you may recall that happened to us a year ago (second week out with the rig!) You have a great attitude -- still a great trip. Did the frame get bent, too?

Well we've survived another adventure. A few weeks down south can make you dread the crappy weather we get around here, though it's not as bad as y'all get up there.
Why do we always need a vaction after our vacation.:h..don't get it. Truck and 5vr performed as expected. Any issues we encountered were self inflicted. Ran a tank of LSD diesel and wound up with a day in the shop to get the turbo cleaned out :S.
After greeting our son with his wife and doing a late dinner we decided to pull an all nighter to get to our next stop. Pulled in at 3am at the state park and the 22yr old ranger had us do a "follow me" through a 8 foot opening in a cast iron fence, made it through the fence opening but missed the low branch on the oak tree :E:M:o. Ranger said she brings bigger campers than ours through there all the time?? Guess that is what insurance is for. Put a 3 foot hole in the roof before I even felt the resistance between the trailer and the tree. Lots of duct tape and the holiday continues. Finally got the trailer in place and patched up, as my head hits the pillow at 4:30am, we get the first of the hourly commuter trains to come by...gee this is fun ๐Ÿ˜ž Ahh what the heck, we still had lots of fun at the beach and out in the Everglades...saw plenty of family, welcomed home the son, watch VT win at the Orange Bowl an in the end.....we're all still upright and breathing. Soon as we get our trailer back we'll plan our mid-west trip, they tell me there's no trees out there.. Happy New Year!

Ok maybe you guys missed a question before...

Have any of you replaced the thermostat in the 35RLTS Designer with a programmbale thermostat? Any problems replacing the old T-Stat?

Eric, do you mean something different than the one you referred to in our last topic? Digital Thermostat

Funny, We still go back to the original thread now and again to verify some of our notes..35RLTS....It's Home

Has anyone put an electrical outlet in their front compartment??
(the big slide thru compartment, not the very front compartment where I have the generator)

Would be nice to have an electrical outlet inside there...also where did you run the lines from?

Yes, they can be tightened. There is a round, plastic piece at the bottom of each side where the shade string is. Losen that screw a bit and roll the piece of plastic like a roller. It will tighten the string and shade.

Happy new year everyone. I have a question about my 08' designer. The shades are loosening up on a couple windows. The shades want to lower by themselves. Is there any way to tighten these up a bit. Any info will be greatly appreciated...

Correct. It is the top mount.

Well I waited to get in this one. I don't own a designer trailer but I have had "squeak" problems with others. It turned out to be the spring sets themselves. As they move and bounce the leaves shift together. Even little movements will shift them together. They will squeak if they are dried out or the touching surfaces have rusted a little. To lube them, lift the trailer weight off them to separate the individual leaves and spray some heavy grease in between them. Also lube inside the shackle bushings and hangers too. See if that helps. If the squeak doesn't go away at least having lubed the leaves wont hurt them.

I also had to do that to a Chevy truck I towed with. The spring clips that kept the leaves tight had loosened and come off. That allowed the individual leaves in the spring set to move.

Has anyone here lifted theirs personally? I'm going to be looking to do that in the spring. Picked up a monster jack and now I just need to pick up some jack stands. I also would like to check my bearings, brakes, and rotate. PM w/ advice.

BTW I think it was the top mount. At least it seems that way on mine

I know what the squeak is. The rubber bushing around the shock mount will wear out. It drove me insane!! My dealer fixed it for me on a return trip. If you want to temporarily fix it, give it a squirt of WD40 or something. Its right where the shock bolts to the frame.

Will try WD40 in the AM. Just got in from 6 nights out in it, and the squeak got on our nerves. Are you talking top or bottom mount?

The shocks are not too short. We had ours lifted and the factory shocks were re-installed.

I addressed that with my dealer when I told them to lift it. I was gonna buy new, longer shocks but did not have to.

MoRyde told me mine would be an inch or more too short when fully extended ... mechanic agreed. I still have them .. I think .. but really don't miss them at all!
