Since there does not currently seem to be a Jayco owners forum, Moderator Frank has graciously allowed this thread. It will be for discussing Jayco related questions and comments. Anything not Jayco related will be deleted. Sounds more than fair to me. Thank-you Frank!

Mine was already pre-wired with the thermostat wire.!! When I put my 2nd A/C in, I went with the low profile Carrier non-ducted, so I didn't need it ... but it WAS there.

Just for information purposes ... on the 35 RLTS. When you take the roof vent out the electric wires on mine where run from the front right corner of the opening .... the Thermostat wires were run from the back right corner. (right side being curb side).

I didn't notice any ductwork ... but then again I wasn't looking !!

Anyone else confirm this?

Well Loyd, that sounds like a swell idea. I can hold the flashlight and hand you tools.

Best way to tell if you have air leakage is to turn on the unit and remove the return filter section from the unit. If you feel any air blowing out from here, you have a leak. You will be able to feel it and where it is coming from. You can seal it up with a good duct tape.

For those that might add the second a/s later, you can either have it tied into the duct system or just have it blow straight out into the bedroom. Just depends on which ceiling kit you buy. Be advised that if you want it ducted you will have to get inside your walls to run a thermostat wire. The ceiling kit style has the control knobs mounted on it, the duct kit does not.

Yes, the second a/c is a 13,500btu unit.

If you want to check the duct, maybe pull off the closest round vent and use a mirror to see what you can see. If you see the insulation then you could use a wire to poke through.

On the sealing of of the supply/return, try a search. But I think if you pull the cover it will be pretty obvious. I have not had to do mine yet, we are getting out this weekend.

The "quick cool" vents are on the A/C itself, the shutters along the edge that you can open to have cool air come out to "quick cool" the immediate area.

I removed the bedroom vent shroud to confirm the A/C wiring and controls were there (they are) and I didn't see any visible duct work, the area was filled with foam(to prevent leakage from the duct?) don't know for sure. (that's why I thought the bedroom A/C wasn't vented)

We want to try out current configuration to check our comfort level. If needed we'll put in a second A/C in the bedroom.

Rebels keep us honest ๐Ÿ™‚ We welcome any comments, especially those from Designer owners.

First what are the quick-cool vents everyone is talking about?

Second...since we didn't get the A/C in the bedroom when ordered, when we eventually do get the second A/C installed by the dealer or whomever will this second A/C be ducted automatically throughout the vents?

Last...I know the rear A/C is a 15000 btu but am assuming everyone's bedroom A/C is a 13500 btu???

I stand corrected, both A/C units blow through the vents. Loydt, I'd be interested in a more detailed explaination of the pressure drop and the fix you've mentioned.
Thanks!

Only the rear A/C is ducted. When you close the "quick cool" vents on the A/C unit the cold air is pushed through the duct work. The bedroom A/C only cools the bedroom.

The bedroom a/c is ducted. I can feel it blowing in the living area through the ducts when only the bedroom a/c is on.

Last night I checked mine to see the pressure drop accros the coil for proper cooling. I noticed I had leaks on both of them with the supply air mixing into the return. I was able to duct tape these areas off and noticed much better performance

Tonkatoys... I'm another rebelious RLSA owner. We chose ours for similar reasons. The bedroom lays out a little nicer and from what I here the queen bed is the standard now with the king being the option. We also thought the bedroom was a little more private. The more open floor space allows for more friends to crash with us. We love the big back window as well, it allows for great views when you have them.

On the other hand you can count the others here....the RLSA is the clear winner here. I honestly think at this pricepoint it's the number one selling floorplan. With the big tv option and great workspace in the kitchen, it's a really great choice.

On the A/C thing, our bedroom definately dumps into the duct. I can feel the increase when I turn it on. The only think I can tell you to check to make sure you have the best output is to verify that when you cover is on you have a good seal from intake to exhaust side. Some have had to put some weatherstripping in there to help isolate each side. They had what seemed like low output, but the units were freezing up. Anyone here checked their Rxxx?

Ok... So I should close the A/C ducts in the bedroom (since we have the 2nd a/c.) This should help push more air through the other ducts. It's just that I see no noticable difference or increase in air flow when I close the Quick Cool Vents. I will check it again and close all the vents accept the ones in the kitchen area to get more air to the center of the Trailer. I hope this works. Any other input would be greatly appriciated.

Tonkatoys Like you we narrowed our choice down to the RLTS and the RLSA the two models your looking at. As an RLSA owner I know I'm out numbered on this post but what you need to do is sit in each one for an extended period of time and make up your own mind. We didn't need the bigger kitchen in the RLTS. I can sit anywhere on my couch and look straight at my television. But I find the couch isn't all that comfortable. I have a big window in back I can look out which is an advantage when parked at the lake. My wife wanted the all in one bathroom. And the RLSA has more room in the living room. I'd like to see the 2009 RLSA with the queen bed in the bed room, there has to be a ton of room in there. For some reason to us the RLSA feels less like a camper and more like a home. As far as pros and cons go there aren't any, there both great campers.

ON the wax, I used Mcquires NXt. Use it on all my vehicles and have had good luck. Tried the back cap with ProtectAll to see how it works and lasts.

We chose the 35RLTS(L shaped couch)because you can see TV from everywhere, and the large window by back chairs really opens up the camper. Also liked extra counter space from pull out under cabinet.

We got the 2nd AC from factory in bedroom, and ours is ducted. I am not for sure, but don't think they can duct the AC if it is put on at dealer. Could be wrong though. L
