Disc brake update

I have approx 2000 miles on my newest upgrade of the titan disc brakes + MorRyde suspension. Other than my Trailer Saver BD5 hitch, this has been the biggest difference in comfort as well as confidence in braking. The Drum brakes that came off were deemed useless as grease had blown out the seals in 3 of them. Disc brakes should be a standard option and should be demanded by the consumer. I just wish I would have done it sooner. It will be a bummer in the next 3 years when Im looking for another rig and will need to start over with all the mods.

Best thing I did for my 2008 Cougar by far. My drum brakes where horrible, never could get the brake controller adjusted right, always fiddling with it. There was always grease leaking on to the linings.

Too bad my 2018 can't get them, my new drums are smaller and have 15" rims too small for the conversion. My old camper had 12" drums and 16" rims ๐Ÿ˜ž

Very nice, OP! Our current trailer is our first with discs and I was absolutely shocked at the difference when we got it. I agree that they should at least be an option on all trailers and standard with the higher end units. When we looked at fivers at the last RV show here, the only one that had discs was a Mobile Suites. All others including Redwoods, Solitudes, Pinnacles, etc. all had drums which truthfully is pathetic, especially when the price of them is considered.

Wood chip,

I was under the impression that the calipers were supposed to face the same way. I was curious why you installed one to the front and one to the rear?

I have viewed the Performance Trailer Brake Titan disc brake installation video many times as I'm thinking of installing these myself.

At 20:40 of their video they state that to have all the calipers facing either front or rear as long as they are the same.

They only need to be the same direction within the same axle. I chose this because the caliper bolts are more easily accessed this way due the shock mounts. I checked with them.

OK that makes sense, thanks

14,000 miles since I did my Titan brake conversion...very happy.

It will be 2 years in Oct...I used Mobil 1 grease and Timken bearings...Might repack in the Spring and see how they are doing...pretty easy job pulling the hubs with the disc brakes.

Very nice....and just looking at the condition of your frame and running gear, so clean...do you actually tow and camp with this trailer....(just kidding).

LOL, Yes I do camp with it but I don't boondock off paved roads etc.. The under carriage is fairly clean with the exception of rust, which primarily is a function of feral / neighborhood cats spraying all over everything. Wish there was way to solve that one haha.

My disks have been on almost two years now. Should have done it ten years ago. Much improved over drums and my drums worked good.

May I suggest that you never use that grease fitting on the spindle again. I would replace with Timken bearings, if Chinese bearings came with the hubs. Do you have wet bolts in each joint?

Yes I have all wet bolts now, The titan disc brake kit came with new bearings and they were Chinese. Yes, I will not be using the grease fitting on the spindle any longer.

Thumbs up to that set up. There is great value in a confident and comfortable tow.
