Finally got the truck, next will the fifth wheel fit ?.

Hi all, finally got the f350 dually with 8ft bed, previous owner was doing hot shoting and I have an aux tank and tool box in the bed .

The issue I’m concerned about is which fifth wheel hitch would you suggest , and with all left in place do I have enough clearance for any turns with a 30ft fifth wheel, suggestions on if I need a sliding hitch or suggestions appreciated

My question is do I need to remove all or just the tool box to ensure I have 5th wheel clearance

From the top pin to the tool box I have

3ft from forward pins to start of tank

26 inch height tool box installed with but can be separated from the tank
31 to top of tank caps

The distance from the puck to the tool box is pretty much irrelevant. Depending on the fifthwheel you are looking at (some are now "widebodies" at 101 inches), generally you are looking at between 8 and 8.5 feet. If you turn 90 degrees, or close to it, you will need 4 to 4.25 feet in front of the pin. If you have enough bed rail clearance when hooked up the trailer may go right over top of the tool box. Provided you are not backing the trailer down hill when in a tight turn.

Thanks for the video, I only have 1 ft to the tool box, I do have concerns as most sites in TT are not flat and I can guarantee the scenario you suggesting would happen I’m thinking Craig’s list the tool chest and find some slim lime for either side of the bed, any thoughts and thanks for your time

Ok, I’m looking at the AUX tank which would be kept and it around 15 20 inch width, and as the team suggests remove the toolbox

Hi thanks much the truck was a hot shot truck so I’m thinking ditch the toolbox and keep the l shape six tank, yes still sticks up above but from cab around 2ft only let me know your thoughts

Thanks 100 percent agree most sites and TT I’m sure I will need the 90 degree and I only see one foot to the tool box and it’s not flush to the bed, may need to remove the toolbox and keep the l shape aux tank ?

Go buy you a Hensley air hitch with their copy of the Binkley Holland Head. And be happy. Your 5th wheel will ride good and your truck will ride good. Your 5h wheel won't get jerked around . And you won't be jerked around in the truck by the 5th wheel. Everything will be riding smoothly

^Good example above...OP!

Another issue some speak of, is turning 90 degrees. There is 0 reason to ever turn that degree, or jack knife while backing. It's nice to say I can, but all you are doing is twisting the suspension, scrubbing the tires, not backing/turning.

It will be close, as to the B&W handle hitting the box, not to allow release of jaws?? Another brand hitch, Reese, Curt, others, may work?

While you'll want to have at least 6"s of bed rail clearance, which may clear top of tool box, most situations, there will be times it could be an issue.

Comes down to how bad you want that tool box?? Might work/might not? Could you change out to a smaller box, if needed? The tank height shouldn't be an issue.

Jerry my tool box pictured is 30" front to back and I have plenty of room for the handle to fully move towards the cab to release the jaws.
