Generator / Carb Part description or number?

After much diagnosing I determined the problem with my Onan 5500 Gold was definitely the carb. An upcoming trip prompted me to replace the entire carb, Amazon shipped me one two day Prime for about $250. Idles and runs like a champ.

I'd like to try replacing the bottom fuel regulator on the old one and see if that fixes the problem so I have a working spare. Does anyone know what that part number is or have access to a diagram? It's the part at the bottom that controls fuel flow from the bowl to the carb, it has a single two wire connector that goes into it.

Original symptoms were stalling for lack of fuel, it ran perfectly if I gave it fuel through the carb (carb cleaner). Because of that I think the rest of the old carb (jets and passages) is fine.

Thanks in advance...

PS: I ordered : Cummins 5410765 Onan Carburetor Kit from Amazon.

It is actually called a fuel shutoff solenoid and I believe this is what you are looking for: EBAY

I don't know the official name but I believe it is a fuel cut off so the engine doesn't run on "diesel" or suck fuel in the engine while it's still turning over while shutting down. I assume it's 12 volt so to check it you should be able to touch the housing to the negative pole of a battery and the wire to the positive and see if it energizes (sucks in).

That's actually what I did in troubleshooting, everything else works fine, it's just that it's not getting fuel through the bottom. Since it's an electric activated plunger I wanted to replace it in case it's electrical in nature, it's really clean at this point because it sat in Seafoam for almost 2 weeks.

What I did was soaked my old carb in a coffee can filled with seafoam after taking it apart. 3 days later I blew everything out with compressed air. 6 months later my friends carb got gummed up so I gave him my spare and took his old one. My spare has been running fine for him about a year now. He is now a true believer in seafoam as I had been telling him to use it. I took my gen to Cummins because it was throwing several codes. It would start but shut right down. Replaced the carb. What it was doing ? when it started the butterfly would stick and the eng would over rev spiking voltage and it would shut down. I now have another spare but using seafoam religiously will prevent this from happening again. Sorry for the lenghly reply but just take youe old one apart and do what I did & I think it will be fine. The reason my orig was gummed up is it had sat for 4 yrs prior to me buying it. Good luck.
