Going from TT to 5er

Greetings,
So after saying I would never own a fw, I find myself thinking it may be the way to go. We own a Hideout 23RBWE travel trailer at about 6500lbs. TV is a 2014 Ram 2500 CTD CC SB with a cargo rating of 2100 lbs. We want a larger trailer and started looking at 28 -30 ft and found what we liked was called 30-actual 35 ft in length. We like the Rockwood Signature 8310SS in a tt and see the same layout in a 5er - the 8280WS. The 8280WS has a empty wt of 7513 and pin weight of 1089 lbs. I'm thinking the 5er to be a shorter overall combo and easier to maneuver. How much will the pin weight gain when loaded? Also how do I know if my bed height will work? The 5er comes with a Reese Revolution pin box.

For some reason, the pin wt OP mentioned is very light, for the dry wt of FW.

I do agree with goducks, that OPs truck would handle a similar FW. I like to follow all ratings, but would not worry to be a little over GVWR on a 2500.

Perfect combo for your truck. I two a smaller 5er at 28' and 9000lbs loaded with my 12 2500 CTD. I wouldn't worry about the pin, IMO I would look for something a little heavier, maybe in the 13-1400lb dry range. My dry pin is 1385lbs, loaded I'm at 1800lbs. I'm over the trucks GVW by 200lbs, but well under the RAWR and GCVWR. My payload rating is 2176lbs.

My new 5er TH has a 2000lb pin weight(dry)and my truck (similar ratings to yours) handles the load beautifully. You almost forget its back there at times. I'm currently not running airbags. Just stock truck with Bilstein shocks.

The 5er your considering is really light. SO much some 1/2 tons could probably handle it.

Go look at the DOT sticker on the left front corner of the trailer. There you will find the GVWR. Takw 20% of that number. That will be worst case sceranio weight. Can your truck handle that much? And I dont mean factory numbers, I mean real world scaled loaded ready to travel.

From what I can figure...(rough estimate) you are looking at about 1600 lbs of pin weight. (dry weights are useless). Start there and match that with whatever PAYLOAD you have available for your 2500 series truck.
