Grand Design 303 RLS and Chevy 2500HD Tow Vehicle Questions

Hello All,

I am saving funds to purchase a Grand Design 303RLS. Tow vehicle will be a 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD CC 4WD LTZ with standard 6.5 ft bed.

Preferred hitch is the Anderson Aluminum Ultimate Hitch as I need to minimize payload weight consumed by hitch weight.

Is anyone on this forum towing this specific 5th wheel with the same or a similar tow vehicle/hitch setup?

If so, I have the following questions:

1. What is the location of your gooseneck ball with respect to the axle line?

2. Do you tow with the ball socket on the Anderson aluminum pin coupler ahead or or behind the pin?

3. Approximately where does this result in the 5th wheel pin being located with respect to the axle line?

4. Do you have plenty of clearance between 5th wheel and truck cab when turning and backing? Are you able to turn 90 degrees?

5. Are you able to obtain at least 6" of clearance between the 5th wheel and the top of the bed rails with this 5th wheel and your tow vehicle/hitch.

Please feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks in advance for your replies and support!

Best regards,

Keith

Thanks for the input 2hams, I will also post this inquiry on the GD Owner's forum, great suggestion. I may PM you for recommended campgrounds in the VB area, our daughter and son-in-law are now stationed there.

Appreciate the input Fishhawker, the GCWR on my truck is 24,500 lbs (diesel).

Great looking camper!

FWIW

If you havent already
You Might want to check the GCWR
Of your truck
My 2010 2500 is only rated at 16,000
which makes a dry weight in the high 9000 lb range
Not something I would do

However, My friends 2015 2500 is rated at 20,000
I dont know what year that rating change actually took place

Good camping to you folks

Keith,

Try the granddesignownersforum.com. There are some folks using the Anderson hitch, but I don't remember which rig they have. The newer 303 has a 2" tube that should give you more clearance (and more room for 16" tires).

When you are ready to buy, call Grand Design and they will ensure that you have the above mod.

Nice choice of rig, you'll love it.
