Looking for opinions and wisdom. I'm in the window shopping phase and have never owned a 5er. I expect to use this for occasional vacation trips, but mostly weekend camping for a couple, with the ability to entertain once in a while. I intend to pull it with a 3/4 ton gasoline truck in typically mountainous areas of the northwest.

The features I like: It's fairly light weight and still pretty well insulated for 3 season use. It has a rear hitch option (3000 lb). It has a dual pane window option. The layout appears to allow for use with the slides in or out.

I've heard that the rear kitchen can be a problem due to bouncing. Otherwise I can't think of any potential problems. Thoughts?

the Eagle HT's are the only half-ton towable 5ers I know of that rear independently certified for use from 0 - 100 degrees .... they produce a good product and back what they sell

The Heartland Sundance XLT 1/2 ton towable series also has the same Weather Guard certification as Jayco. Very comparable 5th wheels.

thank you for that info .... campers built with that level of construction are worth consideration

Heartland Sundance XLT units do look nice, but they don't appear to have dual pane windows or rear hitch options.

We have had a 26.5 RLS for the last 2 1/2 years and have been pretty satisfied with it. Plenty roomy but light, comparatively. We put a hitch on it, at a professional welder's business and tow our boat with it. When we did this, our owners' manual said adding a hitch would void the warranty, didn't say what part, but we are out of warranty now anyway. Now, Jayco is allowing the installation of a hitch as an option so it must not be a big problem. We don't camp in really cold weather, but we have been in 1089 degree weather in Palm Desert, CA and were satisfied with the AC. Turned it on in the morning when it was cool and after sightseeing most of the day, the AC was cycling at 80 degrees in the evening. We find the FW to be very easy to hook up, trailer and set up at the campsites. I would recommend you get the electric rear stabilizers, although they seem to be slow, they work quite well. Good luck with your search.
