I would like to purchase a laser thermometer for use with my fiver and would like a good quality one. Can you recommend any of these and where to buy?

Thanks.

Thanks everyone. I looked at at many websites after reading all your postings and was quite surprised to see the range of prices for these thermometers - from way less than $100 to all the way up to near $1,000 - WOW! I ended up ordering a Fluke Max+ from Amazon. My main purpose for buying a thermometer is to check for fiver wheel bearing temps as we travel. I haven't had a problem to date, but just want to be safe.

I also ordered a TPMS from TST to keep track of trailer tire pressures for the same reason.

We started RVing in 1997: I don't know what i would have done to get all the help I've gotten without you folks on this forum!

Thank you all again!

Fluke makes a good unit, but you will pay more for it.

Since nearly everything we purchase now comes from China I find it useless to look for the old name brands of merchandise. Marketing experts use name recognition to trick us into buying cheap copies of things made in China. For the most part, and there are some exceptions, I find Harbor Freight merchandise good enough for average use. My laser thermometer works fine purchased there two years ago!

Might be bad karma to try your "sky test" on a crowded street in a big town - or when a 747 is passing overhead - you might get "SWATted", ROTFL..:W

I'm still using my $100 NAPA IR gun that I bought over 30 years ago. It paid for itself the first day as it helped find a overheating problem on a bulldozer that I could not solve. Living in a small town I go to Ebay when I need something and it looks like for less than $15 for one so buy two.
Probably the most unusual use is to point it straight up on a very clear day and see how low a temp... I've gotten a -20 which is around 30,000' up.:C

Harbor Freight's unit is plenty accurate for what we are doing with them. Spend the rest of the money on good steaks for the grill.

To me absolute accuracy or price doesn't count. I use mine to check tires and brakes. It's a comparison thing, if all 4 tires are abt the same temp all is good. If one is hotter time to find out why (usually low pressure). Actually my TPMS monitors that but the temp gun is just a double check.

These devices are actuality infra-red sensors. Many of them have a laser pointer to aid in aiming.
