Load Range G Tires

I currently have Goodyear G614 tires on our fifth wheel (see signature). This is what came on the trailer when we bought it new in 2013. I am looking at new tires and am trying to understand why the G614 tires (235/85R16) have a diameter of 30.7 inches whereas all other 235/85R16 tires have a diameter of 31.7 inches.

If I switch tire brands I don't know if a 1 inch larger tire will fit in my wheel wells.

Does anyone know why the Goodyear G614 tires have a smaller diameter than every other tire brand? Even the Goodyear Endurance 235/85R16 has a diameter of 31.7 inches. (I have no intention of dropping to an E range tire - the Endurance is just an example).

Thanks for any input.

We ended up replacing all tires and rims, since we had several OEM rims that developed pin hole leaks, so we lost faith in those wheels.
Got a great deal on 5 Sailuns mounted and balanced on new wheels. Sailun and new rim were less than a G114 alone.

Good choice you wonโ€™t regret it .

Totally threw the tread right down to the steel cord. Tire was 4 1/2 years old and was planning on replacing all during our Winter Down Time in FLA.
Morale of the story, even the best tires can self destruct.

What was the date code? Did you turn it in to GY?

I had one loose some tread and they replaced it. It did not blow. They did have a run in early 15 that had tread separation issues, mine was 0415.

Replaced and back on the road the next day a Monday.

Still avoiding a simple cut n paste I see. If three are so many you should have no problem posting several. Since date mid 07 there should be literally hundreds of storyโ€™s when simply doing a โ€œGoodYear โ€œGโ€ tire failures or issuesโ€ search. They just aint there.

I Just saw this posted last nite....funny.
A search on this website is......well lets say lacking at best about any subject. Myself I wouldn't waste time on this website search function.
A quick 1 min google had pages of hits on the G614 issues from HH II...montana....forestriver.....heartland...mobile suites....others. Even saw some horse haulers....boaters/other website dot coms show up.

The first one had this to say about Goodyears G614:

from Simpletire customer comments :
G614 issues
**On 07/22/2019 gave an Overall Rating of 1 2 3 4 5 5.00
Comments:
Blew another G 614 So went with 4 S637 in 235/85/16 Drove home 350 miles they were the smoothest straightest miles I have ever towed Just Love them.**
......................................

There were 18 more pages and I have no idea how they all went. Someone could spend hours searching through all those pages.

Just because one poster hasn't seen and read about them doesn't mean the rest of us haven't.

The fact is those failures continue to happen with Goodyearโ€™s , had no reason to report other then the fact some insist they do not . IMO everyone needs to hear the bad , when some insist otherwise .

I believe itโ€™s been asked the same about Sailun , the reports of issues are just not there , and there have been thousands sold . At this point a more reliable tire at a more reasonable price

I think what Chris is saying is...it is a road hazard, but he did not have coverage for that. Nice GY paid half, when they did not need to. Paying half was just good advertising, with very little actual cost to GY.

If you buy your GY through America's Tire/Discount Tire basic road hazard repair is included. Replacing an unrepairable tire is extra.

I used ford truck guys prices he mentioned on the other thread.

The numbers I quoted were for the Sailun 17.5 and the GY 215/75R17.5-G114.....

I have not looked yet today, but those were as of the other day... I too like the fact that the GY will not only pay for the tire, but more times than not they will help with RV damage...

The GY G614 235/85R16 are listed at $282.97...
The GY G114 215/75R17.5 are listed at $291.97

The Saliun S637 235/85R16 are listed at $167.97
The Saliun S637 215/75R17.5 are listed at $201.99

Not enough price difference for me to be concerned on my 17.5's

You are saying something I am saying prove it.

Funny this is no different than FISH constantly saying how many head gasket failures on Cummins 6.7โ€™s there were.

Every time they were related to someone having a tuner. I kept calling him on it and he kept giving false examples. FINALLY he gave up trying to make the Cummins look bad with deceptable statements.

So keep โ€œtelling usโ€ of all the OLD GY failures.

But yet you drive a Ford that did have two disastrous previous Diesel engines.

As I mentioned they "DID" have issues in that era.

I have LOOKED on these forums for NON road hazard GY "G" failures, didn't see any.

Still waiting........

Come on guys you are the ones saying the GY's are so horrible so show me!

You guys that say the price is too much at least you are honest, but don't try to justify this because the GY is so bad because the evidence post 07 simply does not show it being a bad tire!

OH yea I was a "working guy" when I purchased GY "G" tires twice and GY "H" tires once.

I was a working guy when I bought Goodyear, then I got wise :B
