Max rim PSI

I noticed that my rims have a max PSI of 65 lbs but I have always run at 70-75 psi with Maxxis Load E tires. I run at 70 psi because the trailer has a max weight of 11k lbs. Should I be concerned about what is stamped on the rim? I would really like to run them at 80psi......

The tires are 225/75R15's. I am no where near a scale so I will have to look for one while on our trip. Im going to run the tires at 65psi which will give me 10,160lbs of tire, my max weight is 11k lbs. factoring in the tounge weight of 15% the axels should only see roughly 9,350lbs at max weight.

Good news is I pack very light, I have gotten rid on all my wood blocks and replaced them with Lynx blocks and went through and got rid of a bunch of stuff I dont need in the TH. We also travel with very little water (we fill up as close to our destination as possible). If I were to guess we probably come close to 8-9k lbs fully loaded with our "stuff", including the bikes.

Lowest rated component details the operating conditions and capacity value.

What diameter wheel are we dealing with here-15" or 16"? What size tire? what scaled axle weights? need the data to arrive at any type of informed review.

Maxxis Load/Inflation chart

This chart is an "industry" standard chart for the listed sizes. My experience is that ST class tires have heat related failures when run at minimum load dictated inflation levels. Areas of high temps -this is even more prevalent -like the desert SW.

Normally I would but I got concerned when I noticed the max psi stamp on the rims that said 65 psi. Just want to be sure it is set up properly before we head out this Friday.

You won't be "set up properly" until you replace those rims that are CLEARLY NOT RATED FOR E RANGE TIRES. The tire shop did you a dis-service by putting them on those rims. The factor of safety is down to about nil at this point.

I guess what you could do is invest in a TPMS and running them at 65-70 psi if that makes you feel more comfortable. I plan on getting a TPMS here very soon.

Thats what I thought. They have been on this TH for roughly 6 years with no issues but my parents used to use D rated tires. I replaced the old tires with new E rated ones and then noticed the psi rating on the rim. Just trying to figure out what pressure to run. My max weight on the TH is 11k lbs.

Strange that it would have the maximum air pressure but not the maximum weight. :h

Are there any other ratings on the rim, like maximum weight?

Mine lasted about 8,000 miles, so you still have a few miles to go. ๐Ÿ™‚

Reading this thread, I have a triple axle with 15" 6 lug aluminum rims too. There is no stamping on them regarding max air psi but there is stamping indicating their rated for 2830 lbs max. I run E rated Maxxis tires at 80 psi, and they've been like that since they were mounted at the tire shop.

I always understood that ST trailer tires are supposed to be inflated to their maximum rated psi all the time. You not supposed to run the air pressure in ST tires in accordance to the weight of the trailer, like you can with LT tires. Dont need the the rated capacity at the max air psi then run a lighter rated tire. ST tire construction is completely different than LT tires, and ST tires are designed to hold the lateral load more than the directional load. Running them at lower than max psi simply causes heat build up in the tire casing and failure.

By the way, how are you liking your Maxxis tires?
So far so good, but our first trip on the tires is this weekend (140 miles each way)

So should I lower the pressure to 65 psi? If I do, do I need to be concerned about heat build up due to not being at 80 psi? Or am I safer at 70 psi?

Correct on an accident with fatality. No death involved, might not even see a Leo respond.

No fatality needed for a lawyer to come after you for damages or injuries

Life in general is not immune to litigation.....but you must have series of events to allow a liability to occur that has litigation potential.

In this thread- accident => degree of physical or human damage => establishment of fault and or contributing factors = legal and civil entanglement risk
