MorRyde IS is finally happening

Dropped it off at the Elkhart factory today. Go back on Thursday to pick it up. Also getting disc brakes, pass through slide, and cord reel.

I ain't right, taking a brand new trailer and having suspension replaced before even the 1st trip. Once we committed to purchase the trailer, the next call was to have IS installed. I scheduled the installation in mid January, and the soonest date available, 11/17!!! They are now booking into 2023!

Ill be there,, it's EARLY in 2023.. April 3rd . . .

That would have been the new owner.... When Ron owned it, he is the one who convinced me that discs were the way to go, we were both on the Redwood forums...

He told me that he would send me everything I needed and send a technician to install.. I would NOT pay for anything until I was convinced they were that much better..
I had a bad experience with discs earlier on and he helped me see the light

How long ago was that? Was Ron still the owner, or was it after he retired and sold it?

I think it must be the brand of actuator.

Agree that disk brakes take a little getting used to. In my experience there are two issues: The first problem is that all disc brake actuators have some delay while they build pressure. Secondly, I have found that the braking response isn’t linear. As said above, they work great (for me) on hard breaking or high speed braking. It’s the light, slow, braking that drove me crazy. Depending on the controller and/or actuator a light push on the brake petal may not send out enough voltage to even start up the actuator--thus no trailer braking. While Hydrastar is supposed to be one of the quickest, my biggest concern was a low startup voltage. I found with BrakeRite (now owned by Dexter) to have good, low, startup voltage. Not sure what MORRyde is currently using for an actuator—they used to use BrakeRite. One solution if using a 2015 or later Ford is to set up the brake “Aggressiveness” to Med or High. Since my older Ford doesn’t offer this setting, the only other option that I found was to install a Prodigy P3 set to Boost level B3. At that boost, a light touch on the petal gets the BrakeRite pumping with slight slowing. Once pumping it is very responsive to more aggressive deceleration. As with any controller it is important to set gain at a point where the wheels do not lock up. The B3 setting will show you right quick if you have too much gain. Full discussion of my experience: Google for my thread "Disappointed in Disc Brakes." https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/29930221.cfm

Any of these guys ever thought of using an accumulator to store pressure? I guarantee that an accumulator valve will operate a whole lot faster than starting up a pump. H3ll, they're putting electric boost motors on turbos to reduce lag to near-zero. An accumulator should be child's play.

They did pull out all the stops with that stupid error the truck was displaying. Bad part, we don't know what was causing the issue, but whatever it was got fixed. This type of problem will drive an engineer crazy.

If you have "DELAY" in your braking with disk brakes you most likely have air in the brake lines!!! My RV and Boat Trailer both have the same HydraStar actuator the biggest they make, neither have any delay.

It's going to have some delay, it has to by design. When I get a chance, I'll look at bleeding the lines. I wouldn't expect Morryde to have an issue with air in the lines.

On my last go around with IS and discs from MORryde I had on going issues.... went through a set of brakes in about 1,000 miles.. they paid a local guy to me to troubleshoot.. at the end I had multiple issues with components, nothing from the install itself..

Kodiak replaced all 4 rotors as when I went to pull the wheels to see what was going on, I has 2 or 3 studs per assembly just spin, had to tac weld the rear of the stud just to remove the wheel..

I had 2 calipers sticking, replaced the rotors ( Kodiak shipped UPS RED LABEL ) and new calipers... still had dragging.... I replaced the Hydrastar actuator with a Brakerite and it went away....

They ( Hydrastar) told me they would bench test the actuator, if it was bad, I would receive a check for the last round of troubleshooting..... I was paid in full.. Thanks to MORRYDE, they told me to do whatever was needed, if I had an issue with Kodiak, or whomever, they would have my back and handle it..

I guess the moral of the story is that anything can happen with install, even with a great company like Morryde... It's HOW they correct the problem that separates them

I tend to agree with Cummins12V98. If you are having chronic delat issues I would check for air in the lines.
There should be no noticable delay if everything is set up properly

Sorry for your issues. All I can say is I have zero issues with both of my HydraStar Actuators. The one on my Boat trailer was always low on fluid with no visible leaks. One day I finally noticed a bit of fluid on the Vent area. Called and talked to them and within 15 minutes I had a tracking number on an overnight actuator with a return label. Mine is the only one I have ever heard of with that issue. Nice they were so responsive.

In a several thousand mile first trip, it is different, but in panic stops, it stops right now

Air in the lines certainly can be a problem but it wasn't mine. My problem was that the Dexter actuator installed with the disc brakes didn't even turn on until greater than 3 volts. That made for no light or light- medium braking with a sudden application when it did finally turn on. Hydrastar and BrakeRite are popular in the RV world and there may be little difference between them. But when I was researching a replacement actuator, Hydrastar technical could not tell me what their minimum turn on voltage was which spooked me. BrakeRite said their voltage was 1.0 volts and my unit actually starts at .9 volts. With the P3 I get good balanced braking at all speeds, light or heavy.

With a good brake controller that is set properly the braking experience should be nearly seamless. There is virtually no pressure building as the lines are full. If they are not full as in air in system, YES there will be "delay".

I had this delay issue rite from the factory. It's a simple job to bleed the brakes as it can be done by one person. Better with two as the revisor is not large on these pumps and you don't want to get low on fluid as then you will have more air in the system. I asked a fellow DRV friend about checking his actuator for fluid and he gave me a blank stare. Frequent checking and topping off is an item to have on the maintenance list.
