Need advice choosing a hitch

Hello everyone,

We just purchased a 2000 Freightliner FL60 to serve as the tow vehicle for our 2008 Teton Reliance....now I need tips on the hitch to install.

The truck is basically a cab and chassis for now...probably will install a flatbed in the near future. The rear axle is 12k pounds.

The trailer is approx. 24kpounds....approx. 5,000 pin weight.

I am looking for suggestions on what hitch to use...appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Phil

I went from a Reese stock hitch to the trailersaver and the ride is improved 100%. Its pricey but worth the money.

There are several air ride hitches available. Trailer Saver, Air Safe, ET hitches, Comfort Ride, Hitch Crafter to name a few. The Escapee's forum has a large MDT/HDT group that can help you choose what will be best.

Dittos to this. A solid joint hitch with a stiff rear suspension is going to play nasty with your trailer.

We have friends who have a Baby F'liner pulling a big Newmar Kountry Aire. His hitch has an air lift to raise it up into tow position or drop it down completely below the deck. Not sure if it's also an "air ride" hitch or if the lift is just that, a lift.

If it was me with a 24k trailer I'd do a lot of looking at either the Trailer Saver or the Comfort Ride. Lots of You Tube video's on both.

If I did not have the TrailAir air bag pin box I would most likely go this route "IF" they would step up and make their hitch work with the newer puck systems. The B&W puck hitch, TrailAire pin box do basically the same thing but are MUCH lighter and a lot less $$$.

Simple solid latching system can't be beat.

What about the air ride hitch options...are there any owners here who have made that choice and opinions?

^^^^^ I have hitched and unhitched a RAM/CURT 25 a few times. Unless the stars are aligned not always simple. Also a no go for me being Made In China.

B&W Makes a deck mount hitch that would work well. Solid, simple to hitch and unhitch and yes 100 percent US Made.

Several reports with chucking because of the heads pivot point being loser than the kingpin height.
