Noisy hitch

Is there a way to minimize the clunking sound coming from the hitch pins on the rails? When I accelerate there is a clunking sound that is annoying. Bigger hitch pins maybe?

I used shims under the hitch to stop the noise with my old hitch. They did the job, but were one more thing I had to do when I installed the hitch.

You can adjust the rails too. If they aren't spaced quite right you can have some play between your hitch and the rails. Sometimes it's just the hitch, too. I have a Curt slider that is just a clanky beast. My Andersen by contrast is totally smooth and quiet.

I have older used Reese rails and am using a new B&W Patriot. When I set the Patriot in the rails and pin it I can lift it up slightly. That cause some clanking. I made some rubber pads from an old bike inner tube. Cured the problem.

anybody using those pads jeremi posted about? Wondering how long it would take the legs to grind thru them. :h

If you have loose pins and you "know" the noise comes from them---I can't help. But any "clunking" starting or stopping I ever heard came from the hitch pin sliding in the hitch.
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

You need to find the correct size pins before it rips through.
My pullrite super fifth is quiet as a church mouse.

Make some small rubber pieces to fit between the rails and the fifth wheel feet.

Something like This.

Spending $600.00 to fix a $5.00 Inconvenience:S

My old Curt Q16 had small feet and small pins, made lots of noise from the legs and the sloppy in the hitch head. B&W 18k Patriot fixed all of the issues.

I had this problem (among others) with my curt hitch. I have universal rails that work with every brand except for Curt. The holes in the curt hitch were smaller requiring smaller pins that did not fit properly in the universal rails making them sloppy and bang every time I would take off from a stop. or shift gears. Once I bought my B&W that used larger pins the banging was gone.

Are you sure where the clunking sound is coming from? Any amount of movement will only increase, not a good thing.

Some hitch brands just do that. Did you put a teflon disk in between the plates? I ended up changing my stock pin to a moyre ride.

Make sure that the hitch is firmly attached to the bed. What brand hitch?
